The White House says it didn't try to stop news organizations who had access to secret U.S. military documents from publishing reports about the leaks.
WikiLeaks posted 91,000 classified documents on Afghanistan Sunday. The organization's founder says he still has thousands more Afghan files to post.

Think about black panthers, weather underground, radical far left kooks, communists and other whack jobs who hate us.
How many secrets have they obtained in this short time and how many have found out that they were under watch
My only hope is that once these radicals lose power there will be an investigation into how the white house, the radical terrorists, fascists and racists , not forgetting the corrupt media have worked together.
It has been appalling how the so called media in most circles have lied, used bias and used their positions to get these radicals into power and then keep them in power
I want this media and how they have worked with 60’s radicals , terrorists and Soros to be investigated and then charged if need be and I guarantee that they should be charged for their disgusting lies and bias.
I would not expect the so called media ot ignore republicans if they was like this and I certainly do not expect them to cover for the Dem party or some of them anyway.
$20 says if it was his thesis that was about to be leaked, he would pull out all the stops to prevent it.
The answer to your question: It is NOT illegal to publish classified information. It is only illegal to give it to other individuals, such as foreign spies. But to publish it in general is perfectly legal. That law should probably be revised.
They do NOT have the power to stop them from publishing public data.
It is LEGAL, under current law.
“But to publish it in general is perfectly legal. “
You are mistaken. Publishing classified information is illegal.
“Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales raised the possibility yesterday that New York Times journalists could be prosecuted for publishing classified information ...
On the talk show, when asked if journalists could be prosecuted for publishing classified information, Gonzales responded, “There are some statutes on the book which, if you read the language carefully, would seem to indicate that that is a possibility.” “

Also — CLASSIFIED information is NOT “public data”
Yes, spineless you are. Everyone of you.
I don't understand how anyone can believe we can not prosecute for stealing classified information?
Not even in my wildest nightmares I could come up with this.
What the hell is world coming to?
harddrive where did you get this idea from? I have heard it twice now on FR.
You are mistaken. Publishing classified information is illegal.I'm not too sure about that. The SCOTUS decision in New York Times Co. v. United States suggests it's okay for now.
I don't understand how anyone can believe we can not prosecute for stealing classified information? The theft itself can and probably is being prosecuted, it's the publishing of this information that might be legal under current laws. I'm guessing that the original source is Bradley Manning.
If any information in these reports can harm our troops then they should be hung.
Posted here: “Hmm, how do we not know that this was allowed by this lamearse, jack squat, idiot-ridden administration to increase the public opinion against the conflict in Afghanistan so as to help back their desire to exit Afghanistan ASAP? =.= “

Oh, the soul-wrenching angst about the "outing" of Valerie Plame.....it could cost her life you know.....
But the "wikileaks" from Afghanistan will ACTUALLY get real people killed,...though they are mere Afghans, and unworthy of protection...
From "Mother Jones" of all places, quoted by Greyhawk:
"The other interesting data are notes from what the military calls KLEskey leader engagements. Military officers, as well as officials from State, USAID, and other agencies regularly meet with important players in a war zone to get their take on the situation. Often they're dull and tell the interviewers little they didn't already know; sometimes, though, they give insight to "atmospherics"how Afghan locals feel about US forces or the Taliban. Many of these key leaders take their lives into their hands; from my experience in Iraq, I know that numerous Shiites, Sunnis and Kurds with high standing among their tribesand among our enemiestook time to brief US officials, often to dish dirt on crooked or violent elements in their vicinity. If they were ever outed as collaborators with American forces, they'd be as good as dead. And Wikileaks has 16 pages of secret military KLEs with individuals and groups in Afghanistan, spanning six years. No names are redacted. In this case, what retired general James Jones, the White House national security adviser, said yesterday is correct: WL is putting some lives at serious risk with that particular data dump."
I seem to recall code zero leaking military secrets shortly after he purchased the election. Weren’t the amount and locations of our nukes robbed of their strategic value and replaced with large target stickers?
He's so obsessed with turning the spotlight from his own treasonous and inept acts that he's played the Bush card into the ground.
One wonders how long before his administration realizes this, crawls down the mooring lines, toting sea bags full of "He made us do it's".
Now that the DOJ attorney stood up to Obama/Holder institutionalized racism, quit and started singing, I'm keeping the popcorn at the ready for the next conscious to surface.
My thoughts exactly, and consider this - Who is the truly most powerful man in the military? Gen. Petraeus. Who is admired and respected? Gen. Petraeus. Who will be blamed for the loss? Gen. Petraeus. After his congressional hearing who was exclaimed to be a possible presidential candidate? Gen. Petraeus. Who’s being set up? Gen. Petraeus. I stink at chess, so I could be way off. :)
It seems that we are giving more thought to stopping this release than odumbo did
