(CNN) Rush Limbaugh said Thursday on his radio show that Fox News and at least one of its anchors "caved" in its coverage of Shirley Sherrod, the former USDA employee who was fired in haste on Monday after an edited clip of her was posted on a conservative website.
"I have to go after it because even Fox caved on this," Limbaugh said. "Even Shep Smith. Even poor old Shep Smith went down there and said that everybody's wrong on this, that [BigGovernment.com founder Andrew] Breitbart is wrong and so forth. There's only a handful of us that have the guts to put this story straight. If we don't hammer back nobody will."
Limbaugh dismissed the story, saying he was bored by it.
"It's nothing more than the left playing the race card, the NAACP has thrown down the gauntlet because the big government argument has failed," Limbaugh said. "They are keeping alive the divisions in this country and I hate taking the bait, I hate playing along with it, I simply despise the whole thing."

Give us a hint....
The Washington Post has a story on Sherrod today.
It’s about the irony of it all..........
And a picture of a Code Pink protester with a huge sign....Loving Sherrod.
We’re the ones who have been snookered........
It didn’t work on me.
They did fold but I expect it from them. FOX isn’t conservative, they just lean that way every now and then because that audience is responsible for their growing market share.
From the full NAACP video, which happens to have an unexplained gap in audio and video at the point where she is talking about what help she provided the white farmer:
That's when it was revealed to me that, y'all, it's about poor versus those who have, and not so much about white -- it is about white and black, but it's not -- you know, it opened my eyes, 'cause I took him to one of his own and I put him in his hand, and felt okay, I've done my job.
You know, I haven't seen such a mean-spirited people as I've seen lately over this issue of health care. Some of the racism we thought was buried. Didn't it surface? Now, we endured eight years of the Bush's and we didn't do the stuff these Republicans are doing because you have a black President.
The woman is a racist, pure and simple. She sees everything thru the prism of race and attacks the GOP and the Bush administration as racist. And anyone who criticizes Obamacare is racist because we have a black President [who happens to be half white.]
Let me get this straight. This whold Sherrod story is how the “media, Brietbart” took out of context her words? Weird and crazy irony here CNN just took Rush out of context. Picked and choose what they wanted you to hear. If I am correct there were a couple of other segments to go along with the noted by CNN. They think we are stupid. Fight them, call them out we cannot let this stand.
Fox DID cave on it. The second night, there was an echo chamber of canonization of Sherrod by hosts and guests alike, from O’Reilly to Krauthammer to Ann Coulter. Without doing any checking, they ceded her the most favorable interpretation of her words and history. It was mental laziness - and some cowardice - in the face of a little minor heat.
Last night, it was a little different. Realizing their error and faced with the evidence of Sherrod’s outrageous comments about Fox, there was some backpedaling. But when it counted the most, they wilted.
SHEP IS UNWATCHABLE!!! Fox LOSES me for 2 HOURS EVERYDAY when I see that Crreeeeeepy Girl’s face, and listen to him whining.
I heard that the entire speech has not been released, it stops at the 23 or so minute mark, IIRC? And the NAACP refuses to release the entire speech?
Hmmm? Nixon?
She eventually told the NAACP audience that she rejected racism for Marxist class consciousness. Breitbart’s video was important because it showed the NAACP supporting the racist statements that she later rejected. Obviously they did not know what she would later say.
Hence, the story was about the audience not the speaker. The Dem-Media complex is muddying the waters to cover their ideological masters.
I can tolerate almost anything playing in the background but my wife absolutely cannot stand to have Shep on.
He creeps her out. Big time.
“Stand your ground; don’t fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have a war, let it begin here.”.
Could this phase be uttered again in 2010?
What are you talking about? This was a winning hand. Unfortunately, it was misplayed, denying maximum gain; but it was so good that it couldn't be lost completely.
There is more good that will result. First, anything that Breitbart writes will be given maximum exposure. If he is careful, he will profit enormously. But more important is that it puts black (and leftwing) racism in the forefront during the election cycle. This woman is a rumbling loose cannon, and will reject any coaching from the top. More material is bound to crop up.
All 43 minutes were up and available on the NAALCP website as of yesterday morning. The power that be at the NAALCP might have finally listened to it themselves and realized how racist her remarks were and decided to pull it. The worst stuff is about midway to the end. I think there are transcripts available, too, but you really need to hear the audience reaction to get the full effect....
When this whole thing broke I was very skeptical of the whole story. I think Sherrod's views are still contemptible, as she rambles on in the 40+ minute tape.
She's still playing the race card. This whole thing doesn't pass the smell test.
Exactly correct. I was reminded of this FR thread from yesterday.
Journolist Excerpts Show Progressive Journalists Panties In A Twist Over Fox News
She’s all about shutting down Breitbart?
She wants to get back at Breitbart?
What a wonderful lady.
not
I don’t know what you’re talking about. The full video, and the laughter and “that’s rights” she said when she was talking about HER racism toward whites is THE evidence in this case. The key point is that NONE of them knew where the story was going or that she would “redeem” herself as “not a racist” when they were laughing and AGREEING with her. Try again.
I guess when you sell your soul to the highest bidder integrity and honesty go right out the window.
These people are pathetic and are not worthy to represent this country in anyway. They haven't grown up, and continue to be ignorant about the greatness of this country.
Everything to them is equated to the lowest common denominator. It's sad and pathetic.
OK... rant over. Thanks for listening. I am glad we have the likes of you out there!
I gotta get one of those flags, "Don't Tread On Me".
Thank you, thank you, thank you. We won this round with patriotic, PC-weary Americans who count most. They know that if the bigoted, bitter, racist Sharrod is what the NAACP considers tolerant, we have a serious black racism problem on our hands in this country. Shouldn’t take an act of God (as Sharrod alleges she experienced) to help someone stop being brutally cruel enough to honkies to condescendingly hand them over “to their own.” That’s pretty frightening talk, folks.
