President Barack Obama called Shirley Sherrod Thursday to offer his apologies and urge her to accept a promotion on Thursday, but the Agriculture Department official, who was forced out on unfounded charges of racism, kept mum on her plans.
Obama had tried to call her twice on Wednesday night but couldnt connect with Sherrod, according to an administration official. West Wing staffers were attempting to call her again when she returned the presidents calls at around 12:35 p.m.
The apology came after Sherrod took to the airwaves Wednesday to say she would appreciate a call from the president. The 62-year-old grandmother resigned at the direction of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack after a misleading video was posted on conservative websites. It later was discovered to have been doctored to misrepresent Sherrod as racist.

To finish the “history”, after Breitbart became interested in the content, he looked through his emails and requested new copies of the tape.
Just be sure you are nowhere near the body scanner monitor at the airport when she is flying on her media tour.
No, but after she makes another round with the media, he'll undoubtedly call a meeting with her and bow.
"Mr. President, there seems to have been some incident involving Prof Gates and the Police."
"Well, I don't know what you're talking about, but what I can say is that the Police acted stupidly."
"Mr. President, a woman working for USDA said something the other day. People are upset."
"Well, I don't know what she said, but fire her."
"Mr. President, some people think that maybe what she said was OK."
"I have no idea what you're telling me. Fire her boss. Rehire her."
Agree...this is sooooo beneath the office.
Dems are panicking because they don’t want any black voters staying home in Nov.
Thus its time to start cranking up the racist grievance mongers.
Doctored sounds better than excerpted. Al least it sounds better when you’re trying to spin a racist’s statements.
Fired on Monday for racist remarks & bigotry regarding a white farmer...
Sainted & apologized to by every leftist racist commie pig official & organization by Thursday.
God help our nation from the tyranny of black racist leftists & white guilt idiots. We need a 2nd American Revolution more than ever and to drive these anti-American, racist, bigoted, socialist-commie pig leftists into the sea!
Fortunately, even the MSMedia is now reporting that obama is losing whites and independents at an ALARMING rate and you can bet your bottom dollar, that will translate into a November bloodbath...
I believe the author of this piece is a member of the Journolist. It reeks of condecending bias.
When does AMERICA get an apology from the President?
ps. Can't stand O'Reilly but love watching Dennis Miller and even Dick Morris on occasion.
The world wants to know. Is he going to invite her to the Whitehouse for a beer?
Did he bow to her too?
I'm hoping Brietbart has been sitting quietly on the next round of information and video about this woman.
Unlike many conservative commentators, I have not been in the least impressed by her realization that class envy is more socially acceptable and effective than racism, when deciding how to divvy up the marxist spoils.
This is insane. Does this article say the footage was doctored? And we are running around with our tails btw our legs over this?
But don't you day say muchaka. The "right" in this country has Stockholm syndrome, battered wife syndrome, fear of success and quite possibly a collective death wish.
must be that antenna thing.
Sherrod actually said something interesting - that she wanted to share some of her rural and Southern experiences with him *SOMETHING THAT HE DOES NOT HAVE*
i.e. being an American perhaps?
