Can somebody tell this piece of shit that slavery is illegal in this country?

Liberals love slavery. Their only real objection to the pre-1865 chattel slavery in America is that the slaves were privately owned.

But it's obvious that they have no problem with the idea that the government owns the people, and can dispose of their lives, liberty and property in any way it sees fit as long as it is done in the name of the public good (i.e. the "General Welfare").

At least that's what it says in the so-called "Living Document" version of the Constitution, which in these more enlightened times is now seen to mean the exact opposite of what it actually says.

The military has repeatedly resisted a draft. They have enough things to worry about right now without having to also heard a bunch of people around who don’t want to be there no matter how good it would be for them. If we ever get to the point where massive amounts of troops are needed again (which I doubt) then the military might change its mind. Until then, I’d take the advice of the current commanders.

They want to get rid of the all-volunteer military. If the military was half full of anti-war dems who are forced to serve, the US could never fight another war effectively ... ever.

Comrades, it's all in the book.

"Equal liability of all to labor. Establishment of industrial armies, especially for agriculture." From the Communist Manifesto.

My opinion has nothing to do with the ding bat commanders, but has everything to do with the number of people who I know that came from nothing and became productive members of the country after service.

No, of course they weren’t slaves. They were just men being forced against their will, under pain of prison, to go perform work as directed. Don’t people realize, we are here to serve the state?

Only a fool would call that slavery, the progressive Wilson supreme court said so! Of course, that government also gave us the income tax, prohibition, the federal reserve, etc etc,,,really good company.

Well I’m glad you know some people who became productive after military service (voluntary or compulsive). I expect you already know there are some who didn’t become productive after military service. I just don’t see any reason to extend the baby-sitting, public school mentality to the military.

So all those good old boys that stormed the beach on D day were forced to do so. Were they firing into their backs with machine guns.

Rangel has been pushing this for years based on hit beleif that the children of the rich and white people in general have forced the minority children to serve in the military.
Rangel has stated many times over the years that if the rich had to send their sons and daughters off to war there would be no wars.
Rangel is a crook and a race baiter

The supreme irony, is that a draft is never truly needed. The American people have a finely tuned BS radar. There will never be a shortage of people willing to keep America safe, even overseas.

But you will have a hard time finding enough for foreign adventures that have nothing to do with our well being. A draft allows the government to short curcuit that.

"It’s just grandstanding. They can’t have a good old fashioned draft where the people with “higher priorities” are excused, so it’ll never pass."

This is what they will have:

"I will have a national, civilian security force as large, as well-funded as the military” ~ BO

Here is what the majority in the Obama civilian security force looks like.

Rangel keeps floating this one every 3 years or so (2003, 2006, 2010). Nothing new. Gets shot down every time, by huge margins.

What is it with these Democrats wanting to reinstate some sort of draft?

They think it will bring back their glory days of the 1960’s, since draftees and their parents would presumably turn out in the streets to protest wars in a way that they can’t pull off with an all-volunteer military.
