Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack this afternoon took responsibility for firing an official, Shirley Sherrod, whose appearance on video recalling her behavior toward a white farmer drew charges of racism, and whose immediate firing drew suggestions that the administration had over-reacted to an edited video clip.
A White House official told me just now that the White House backs Vilsack's decision -- but that it was Vilsack's alone. The official said the White House -- contrary to the Sherrod's charge -- did not pressure the Department to fire her.
Vilsack's statement:
Yesterday, I asked for and accepted Ms. Sherrods resignation for two reasons. First, for the past 18 months, we have been working to turn the page on the sordid civil rights record at USDA and this controversy could make it more difficult to move forward on correcting injustices. Second, state rural development directors make many decisions and are often called to use their discretion. The controversy surrounding her comments would create situations where her decisions, rightly or wrongly, would be called into question making it difficult for her to bring jobs to Georgia.
Our policy is clear. There is zero tolerance for discrimination at USDA and we strongly condemn any act of discrimination against any person. We have a duty to ensure that when we provide services to the American people we do so in an equitable manner. But equally important is our duty to instill confidence in the American people that we are fair service providers.
The buck never reaches Obama.
Sherrod, under the bus.
Vilsack, time to get under the bus.
All of them go under the bus for Hussein their Saviour.
Sordid civil rights record? Vilsak have any examples of that?
The Buck never got to Bozo.
People, especially democrats, always accuse others of what they are guilty of.
Pretty crappy job of vetting her. another epic fail courtesy of the Obama Regime.
“Sordid civil rights record? Vilsak have any examples of that?”
Yes, the mass exodus of our primarily white male institutional knowledge base due to rampant reverse discrimination for the sake of hiring unqualified non-whites to GS-15 and SES positions where they use hand calculators to manually add columns on excel spreadsheets.
They said Jon Kyl was a liar too, remember?
I’ll take the word of a low-level bureaucrat over one of Zero’s cronies any day.
Nope, it’s just what they redefine the word “pressure” the Chicago way. The poor woman was not “pressured” in that sense.
So I see the number of things done right by Zero is back to zero.
0bama is calling Sherrod a liar? I hope she sees what racial loyalty gets you and slaps the Man-Child upside his haid.
I don’t usually watch Beck, but I did today. He’s spot on with his analysis of this. She isn’t as much of a racist as a Maoist, and fits right in with the Obama crew. She got smacked to deflect the blowback from the NAALCP resolution against the Tea Party.
What bugged me more than not helping the farmer as much as she could have because he was white, was the part about putting him with “his kind.”
It’s hard for me to say which part of her behavior was most disgusting, but I think the part about having a difficult time deciding to help someone based on their race, and then, doing it because, she says, he would have to go back to the Dept. of Ag and tell them she helped him. This is not being widely discussed, but she clearly says it’s why she DID ANYTHING for this farmer. Only because she wants him to go back and say she did something for him. Even so, she doesn’t do as much as she could.
Glenn Beck turned this entire situation around on the White House. It was genius. He made them look like idiots. Thank you Glenn!!!
The all blatantly lie and frankly don’t care.
I missed that story. Link?
Might want to give this video a gander. Mike Fleming the white man is the former WREC 600 AM afternoon talk host, seems to think that the dem commentator is making anti semitic remarks. This concerns the US 9th District TN race.
