...For the record, the NRA-PVF has not yet made an endorsement in the Nevada U.S. Senate race. In fact, there have been no announced endorsements for any U.S. Senate seat for the November general elections-period....
... Admittedly, Senator Reid's record is not perfect; few politicians' records are. For a number of years (primarily in the 1990s) Sen. Reid had some problematic votes on our issue. But in the last five years, he has dramatically improved his record on our issue, so the NRA-PVF would be irresponsible if it did not give due consideration to those recent votes and actions. There is no doubt that, as Senate Majority Leader, Reid has supported efforts to protect Americans' gun rights, both by voting FOR pro-gun measures AND preventing anti-gun legislation from reaching the Senate floor.
In 2004, Sen. Reid voted against efforts to reauthorize the Clinton ban on "assault weapons" and ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 rounds, which are standard equipment for many rifles and for most modern semi-automatic pistols designed for defensive use. Early last year, he flatly stated he would oppose any effort to reinstate an "assault weapon" and magazine ban if the Senate were to vote on it in the future. In 2005, Sen. Reid was instrumental in Senate passage (and eventual enactment into law) of the "Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act" (PLCAA). That law shut down reckless lawsuits against gun manufacturers and dealers, which attempted to hold them liable for the misuse of firearms by criminals. Sen. Reid also cosponsored the PLCAA in the previous Congress and voted against the Feinstein Amendment to ban "assault weapons" and "large" magazines, and the Kennedy Amendment that would have banned most hunting ammunition...
The NRA's Defense of Reid went on for several more paragraphs.
I’d sooner endorse a fly sitting on a heaping, hot pile of s*...er....Obama than endorse that semi-dead “thing” called Reid.
I already did.
It’s not just the pro-gun issue, it’s his support of his party that is against gun ownership. One man does not make a party, but as part of a group he works against ownership of guns and the 2nd Amendment.
Hey NRA Bunghole Reid is a God Damn C-O-M-M-U-N-I-S-T Got it????
Wayne LaPierre sent out his email today. I told him to pound sand. Specifically over Reid.
The NRA has always endorsed Michigan Democrat John Dingellberry because of his pro-Second Amendment votes.
Commie is right.....but that does not matter to the nra.
I already canceled my NRA membership after their “deal with the devil” a few weeks ago. The NRA sent out at least 3 emails trying to explain its reasoning in that case, each worse and more annoying that first. Their pat excuse seems to be that the NRA is a SINGLE ISSUE organization and therefore, selling out the free speech rights of the American public or failing to excoriate an America hating thug and out and out criminal are simply not its job!!! You know the NRA is getting heat if they send numerous emails to its membership trying to make ludicrous policy positions palatable.
Reid is no more pro gun than is Diane Feinstein, but he is pretty slippery on the topic.
Perhaps the NRA might want to ask the membership for some guidance on Mister Reid, eh?
.
I have informed NRA that if they endorse Reid then I am gone. Am also joining Gun Owners of America.
If they NRA always endorsed only Pubs, they would just be another Republican group. They would lose all their clout, and a lot of members. Their power comes from the fact that politicans know they have influence on independents and “bitter clinger” Democrats who care about gun rights, who are the very folks that decide elections.
My guess is they hedge their bets, and won’t endorse anyone.
Exactly my feelings. While I realize that the NRA is a one issue association, the damage Reid did to all US citizens in all walks of life cannot be ignored by me. His lock-step support of obama’s radical agenda is unacceptable. No endorsement is the only way the NRA can go to keep me aboard.
The NRA better expand its thinking regarding politics, or it will die like everything else is. Believe and support commies at your own risk. The NRA is an incredibly rich organization, and I’m okay with that, but the commies aren’t. Think taxes, bans, regulations, a tightening of the noose until the organization is dead. It’s coming, and Reid is one of the scumbags bringing it.
They may fear having Reid replaced by Chuck Schumer as leader of the Senate.
I'm sure Senators Shumer, Dingel and Feinstein would appreciate your principled conservatism.
The NRA needs to take off the second-amendment blinders and look more at the big picture. Any democrat voting in favor of the second amendment isn’t doing so because they believe in the right of the people to keep and bear arms - they are doing so knowing that they’ll be able to crush the second amendment later in time, after they destroy the first amendment and others.
Reid, like all democrats and most republicans, is after one thing - power. They want complete control over the people. they hate our freedoms. They hate that there’s a consequence to failure, and a reward for success. They hate that people can speak freely, and can speak out against them.
The NRA is compromised. I will not renew unless their leadership gets their heads out of their butts.
At this point I don’t care who they endorse. Simply considering a Reid endorsement tells me I want nothing to do with them any longer.
It is a canned letter. Same one I got several weeks ago.
Yep, that'll show 'em. I'm sure Senators Shumer, Durbin and Feinstein would appreciate your principled conservatism.
