No, this is not coming from Rasmussen or an internal GOP poll, but from the normally Democrat-sympathetic Public Policy Polling...
With his approval numbers hitting new lows its no surprise that Barack Obamas numbers in our monthly look ahead to the 2012 Presidential race are their worst ever this month. He trails Mitt Romney 46-43, Mike Huckabee 47-45, Newt Gingrich 46-45, and is even tied with Sarah Palin at 46. The only person tested he leads is Jan Brewer, who doesnt have particularly high name recognition on the national level at this point.
Its not that any of the Republican candidates are particularly well liked. Only Huckabee has positive favorability numbers at 37/28. Romneys at 32/33, Gingrich at 32/42, Palin at 37/52, and Brewer at 17/20. But with a majority of Americans now disapproving of Obama its no surprise that a large chunk of them would replace him as President if they had that choice today.
There are two things driving these strong poll numbers for the Republican candidates. The first is a lead with independents in every match up. Romney leads 48-35 with them, Gingrich is up 50-39, Huckabee has a 46-40 advantage, Palins up 47-42, and even Brewer has a 38-37 edge.

Does Palin have the guts to shake off the tsunami of liberal hatred (inside and outside the GOP) and stay on course with a bright attitude the way Reagan did?
I hope so. I think the real threat is the sad GOP. What's it going to take for Palin to top Mitt RINO Romney?
I won’t go as far as you...she’s a very accomplished woman who is unfairly maligned.
BUT, on the flip side, I will agree that her fans here wildly overestimate her. She doesn’t say much original. She clearly isn’t someone who had thought deeply about political and philosophical issues. Ironically, her strength lies as an administrator, where she has somewhat proven herself.
But there’s just no telling the members of what you accurately desribe as her cult here any of this.
Hank
I do not care what anyone is saying about this joke. She is a joke because that is the fact. Now do not back paddle from your prejudice, you are caught red handed.
Are we claiming that Barry was born in Australia now?
Hank
Very good points.
Hes good on fiscal issues.I heard him say on camera that he is pro-life. He is anti-tax, anti-spend, no apologies for cutting government sector and union largess. Surely he is no gun-grabber, is he? (fingers crossed and breath held)
jveritas, great to see you on the threads again. You have probably been here all along, but I have been in hiatus for the last two years since the O won. Just now getting back on the boards.
I blamed Hoffman?
Either you are just making it up as you go along, or you have me confused with someone else.
Newt backed Scozzafava because she was the party’s candidate and he is a Republican.
You don’t build support within a party by endorsing another party’s candidate.
I didn’t agree with his decision to do it, but I understood why.
1. This "tough" Palin did the most cowardly thing in politics. She surrendered to a bunch of nobody democrats in Alaska and resigned her first term as a governor after 2.5 years. By doing so she destroyed any chance of seriously winning the nomination let alone the Presidency. No amount of excuses by her or her followers is going to change this fact. All this she did for Alaska, she was going to be bankrupt are lame exuses that would be luaghed at by a majoirty of the electorate.
2. All what she does is to say platitude and rhetoric that any little blogger on the smallest conservative forum will say. In fact she comments on everything under the sun. She starve for attention exactly like Obama. So in other word she is the right version of Obama.
3. She is such a damaged good that no amount of polishing is going to change what a majority of the electorate think about her and they think that she is no ready to be President.
4. I have heard her talk on many occasions, she has a weak political intellect, in other words if she goes in a debate with any of the mentioned Republican candidates she will be exposed as very shallow and does not know a lot. All her answer a simple rhetoric and platitudes with no thoughts and in a debate that is not going to work. More than that she does not project any maturity when she talks, she sounds like a teen ager.
5. She lowers herself and picks fight with every media person who goes after her. She even picked a fight with some idiot journalist who moved next to her house. Those constant fights with the media may be considered a heroic act by hers fans but considered a childish and immature behavior by the majority electorate for some who wants to be President. Again she behaves exactly like Obama on these issues of picking fights with everyone who criticize her.
You can have the last word on this because I am in no mood to further debate Palin cultists. I cannot change your cult mentality and certainly you cannot convince me otherwise.
Great to see you too, I wondered where you have gone. I am glad to see you back :)
There is a question whether he was born, or is another of Dr. Frankenstien’s experiments gone bad....
I’ll NEVERNEVERNEVER vote for Gingrich again!
He fooled me once, as a Georgia voter, but never again!
He is smart alright, but he is a slimewad of the first order.
That says it all, anyone who supports her is a cultist, and you're waaaaaaaay to smart to stoop to the level of dealing with "those types".
Your inability to discuss your own lib talking points shows everyone who reads this who you are. I noticed you didn't comment on what I said earlier, rather you put out a bunch of lib screed, screechy talking points, and I'll repeat, nice pirouette.
Should I call you a "joke"?
Romney is a liberal.
Gingrich is unelectable."
Nicely put.
Winning at all costs at the expense of conservative principles. Gotcha. People who think like you are a major factor why things are so damn screwed up in the GOP.So now Newt Gingrich isn't conservative enough?
These numbers don’t reflect the degree of passion on the Anti-Obama side and the degree of disappointment even on the Pro-Obama side (for one reason or another). This means that we should outperform the standard “turn out” adjustments that are built into the polls, and maybe in a big way.............
Somebody hit a nerve with the cultural bias against women thing lol.
