U.S. President Barack Obama sought on Wednesday to lift sagging confidence in his economic stewardship by enlisting the help of predecessor Bill Clinton, as a leading business group issued a scathing critique of the administration's policies.

Clinton, who presided over the 1990s economic boom, was to join Obama at a White House meeting with business leaders at 2:35 p.m. Eastern time (1835 GMT) to encourage job creation and investment, including in clean energy.

Four months before the November congressional elections, Republicans have tried to paint Obama and his Democrats as anti-business.

Obama is increasingly turning to former President Clinton to help win over voters and the business community.

Clinton, seen by many in corporate America as sympathetic, has helped the White House by campaigning for Democratic candidates running in November's elections.

Much of Clinton’s economic boom was due in no small part to the Republican controlled Congress.

Exactly, but I don't think the Pubbies will be able to save the day in 2011 like Gingrich's 1994 House did. Unless they roll back all the Pelosi/Reid/Obama legislation to pre 2006 level, all Obama is doing is setting the new Pubbie majorities up for a huge failure that they can be blamed for. Making Obama look good for 2012

Who better to teach him how to do that than Slick Willie?

I wonder if Barry will be serving him coffee during the meeting.

My take, is that when she announces that she's gonna run against Obama, ( which I suspect will happen after the GOP controlled Congress is sworn in next year ) she'll resign as SecState to say she's running for the good of the country, and it's not about politics or her ambition (snicker, snicker) it's jsus that Zero hasn't done the job, and she needs to help the Dems rebuild their trust with America. She can say that her husband, the former President, did everything he could to help Obama..hence this charade now. Bonus prediction..when she ran in 2008, she did everything possible to distance herself from her husband..to say to America..this is my time..I bet now, when she runs, he'll be actively and publicly involved, to convey the idea that if she wins, America will get the "benefit" of both of them (gag)..To mnay Dems..this is Nirvana...

Here's a question...she runs against him in the primaries, and defeats him, and wins the nomination...so does Barry come to the nominating convention and make a prime time speech, or does he sit in the cheap seats with Jimmy Carter and Michael Moore?

I think the booming economy under Clinton was due to the Tech boom...think about the computer advances that happened then. While the computers were making there way from the biggest companies to the smaller ones, computers were not very common at home. Then..boom, everybody had to have one with all the hardware and software accessories. The internet took off also. Clinton was lucky 2 ways..the tech boom and the repubs limiting the damage he would have liked to implement.

Clinton can’t tell him to appear moderate and fool many.
At this stage Obama has ruined all and can’t fool anyone again with the teleprompter and speeches that say nothing. IMO Obama could give a rats petard that a huge percentage of people don’t like him anymore.

This is just being done to make it look like he cares to help the November election dems.

I see an interesting trend here... maybe tin hat...

Republican Congress, Democrat President = Economic Growth, President Hailed
Democrat Congress, Republican President = Economic Recession, President Faulted
Democrat Congress, Democrat President = Economic Recession, Previous President Faulted

Now flip to 2010 and beyond:
Republican Congress, Democrat President = Economic Depression brought on by President’s policies, Previous President Faulted, Republican Congress Faulted

My thoughts of how it will go down, in a nutshell...

Personal opinion: This is Obama’s way of trying to keep Hillary in check and anchored in her SOS role.

I agree. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Obama is seeking Bill Clinton's help because they know the Clintons are a threat. They want to keep them close and keep an eye on them. They figure the more they get Bill to intertwine with Obama's economic policies, the harder it will be for Hillary to demonize those same failed policies and run against him. We shall see....

Let me tell you what they will do.

Biden will resign.

Hillary will be appointed.

Then, the left-wing radicals who invented "Obama" will eliminate him, and try to blame us.

By "try to blame us", I mean, they have a plan already developed and ready to go. They will need the military to quell the riots. In that context, they will order the suppression of dissent "because it's like shouting fire in a crowded theater".

Hillary can still run in 2016. She’d be 69, same age as Reagan, 3 yrs younger than both McCain and Dole. Newt will be 69 in 2012, Romney will be 65. No one is saying they’re too old.

The dems don’t exactly have anyone waiting in the wings. Biden isn’t running. Only a few guys really seem to have potential in the future. Warner of VA, Webb of VA. I can’t really think of any other GOvernors or Senators. There’s no other women who would challenge her. Napolitano and Sebelius won’t.

2016 bodes well for her. If Obama is re-elected, she’ll have plenty of foreign policy exp and may even move overto defense. She’ll still have all her supporters from 2008 and the party will likely get behind her as the 1st woman President and to make up for 2008. She’ll be in good shape.

If Obama loses in 2012 she’ll be in even better shape as all her supporters will still back her and they’ll make the argument that the party messed up by going with Obama and this is their chance to correct the mistake.

She has to be the heavy favorite for 2016 at this point.

“Much of Clinton’s economic boom was due in no small part to the Republican controlled Congress.”

Yep. Obama can only hope for a Republican Congress that actually acts conservative and holds him to spending.

Of course, this is just smoke and mirrors to look like he’s exhausting all options—he’s getting what he wants —a failing economy.
