Venus Williams Defies Michelle Obama’s Claim That Obesity Is a Race Issue
Nanny State Liberation Front ^ | July 14, 2010 | Nanny State Liberation Front

While addressing the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) this week, First Lady Michelle Obama declared obesity a threat to black Americans comparable to oppressive racial policies of the past. Instead of citing positive black role models who refuse to fall victim to a supposed threat that is ‘terrorizing’ their race, Mrs. Obama instigated another racial struggle for the civil rights organization to unnecessarily embed itself.

“We are living today in a time where we’re decades beyond slavery, we are decades beyond Jim Crow; when one of the greatest risks to our children’s future is their own health,” Mrs. Obama told the NAACP on July 12. “African American children are significantly more likely to be obese than are white children.”

One African American who did not allow herself to fall victim to the so called obesity ‘epidemic’ is Venus Williams, a professional tennis player who has won three Olympic gold medals and seven Grand Slam singles titles. Williams is a shining example of a black American child who thwarted the health threats posed by foods Mrs. Obama and her fellow food cops claim are this generation’s most notorious genocidal murderers.

In the July issue of Bon Appétit magazine, Williams shares her secrets for how she “fuels up for her work on and off the court.” Williams reveals she is not afraid of the poisonous foods that Mrs. Obama and radical food “watchdog” groups like the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) and the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) are waging war against.

“Ruth’s Chris is my favorite restaurant, and I always order the rib eye, medium-rare,” said Williams, which undoubtedly makes the anti-meat PCRM cringe in fear for the tennis star’s life. According to the PCRM ...

“Breaking down the family unit has always helped the liberal movement.”

Yep, this is why the liberals - during the 70’s and 80’s - PUSHED everyone to fast food and processed foods. This helped them show that women now had time to become bread winners, etc... Then they moved on to “develop your own person - outside of marriage” which led to the explosion in divorces due to affairs and such. Please note, I am NOT saying it is woman’s fault for these increases, I am saying it happened. Then it was the “see, you don’t even need a man” phase, so we have multiple single parent families!

NOW they are against fast food and processed foods - which the liberals originally PUSHED on the public. They ALWAYS create something to villainize! It has been an ugly down hill slippery slope which shows that once you go off the edge, it is VERY hard to stop and almost IMPOSSIBLE to reverse.

Carbs are the devil.

If you overload they put you to sleep. You get no exercise that way.

>>I don’t want to be remembered as a lump lying in a bed 24 hours a day. <<

ME TOO!
I don’t want my kids or grandkids hating the thought of coming to see me. I don’t want a stranger changing my diapers, I don’t want to have to be fed. Etc.

That may have been, but Ephedra has been used for hundreds of years as Ma Huaug.

It’s illegal now. I know many people who lost weight with it.

>>I don’t want to live until someone has to feed me, so I’m going to balloon to 300 lbs. Good luck with that. Hopefully Darwin will work his magic before you reproduce.<<

Who ever said ballooning to 300 pounds? You, not me.
And what a smarmy response! Maybe you’re crabby because you need a cookie.

But I don’t want to live to be 100 and be a puddle in a bed.
I’ve gained a few pounds since my anorexic days. If that skims 10 years off my life, I don’t care at all.

We have Alzheimer’s in my family. I’d rather not be a skinny 90 year old in diapers that my kids have to take care of.

You may chose differently. That’s cool. It’s America and we are allowed to do that, so far.

>>Maybe a little, <<

No, it’s true. My doctor just showed me the documentation on it. And it’s worse in women after menopause.

It comes down to the body’s ability to produce Human Growth Hormone, which is why most teen can sleep 10 hours a day, sit on a computer or in front of the tv, each whatever they want and still not gain weight. It levels at age 25 and is non-existent after menopause.

"And what a smarmy response! Maybe you’re crabby because you need a cookie."

Sorry, that was a little crabby - it certainly reads more "crabby" than I intended. Plus, I wasn't necessarily saying you and in you, just "you" as in everyone.

But, I'll reiterate my point. We are an obese nation that is bordering on a morbidly obese nation. And, while I don't support governments regulating my diet - as we see with initiatives in NYC and Chicago - I think it's entirely appropriate for this First Lady, or any First Lady to have a "pet project". If Michelle Obama wants to tack the obesity epidemic, especially the epidemic that is ravaging black America, I say - You go girl.

Fat people are expensive, and they exponentially increase the overall costs of health care - those are costs that are born by everyone in the country. People with access to the Bully Pulpit are right to speak out on America's fatness.

If it were just calorie in/calorie out, everyone would be thin.

Burn more energy than you consume and you will lose weight. Nothing else matters.....unless someone has repealed the laws of thermodynamics, anyway.

Americans of sub-Saharan African descent have had higher death rates than Americans of European descent. Higher rates of heart disease and diabetes are the two big reasons.

Both diet and genetics are involved. I knew one black woman whose recipe for chili included more sugar than a six-pack of Jones soda. And while okra and collard greens are healthy, eating 60% carbohydrates isn’t.

On the genetics side, even when scientists control for diet, blacks in America have about 40% greater chance for early death from heart disease, and almost double for diabetes. And 99% of Americans could not keep up with a Venus Williams exercise schedule.

Further, because of genetics and diet, prescription needs for black Americans are slightly different, as are optimal medicine amount for men vs. women. Sometimes these things are obvious, as in women’s need for iron during child-bearing years. Sometimes it can be adjusted, as in finding the right dose of Metformin or insulin. Pharmaceutical companies are aware of this, but it’s expensive to get good data for everyone.

Professional athletes, on average, die younger than other Americans. A combination of post-career obesity, career injuries, and drugs (performance enhancers, pain-killers - as professional athletes have to play through pain, and so-called recreational drugs, including alcohol) all contribute.

Oddly the best predictor of early death in a professional athlete is left-handedness. There aren’t enough good data out there to determine whether left-handedness is a risk factor for the general population, but left-handed baseball players die on average eight years younger than right-handed baseball players.

Getting older slows your metabolism too.

That's Mother Nature trying to kill you off ..... slow you down a step for the dire wolves and sabre-toothed cats.

Ever notice that that slowdown age, 28, just happens to be about double the age of puberty?

As soon as your firstborn is ready to drop kids of her own and sire kids of his own, Mother Nature's genetic casino doesn't need your ass around any more -- to the wolves with you!!

Croupier, please escort the old, used-up, 30-year-old fat guy to the door. Thanks for playing, sir, and have a nice blood poisoning.

I don't remember liberals pushing fast food on society back then. I remember people grabbing burgers on their way from work to some social activity, because it was quicker than whatever turnaround time they could manage in their own kitchens, and they wouldn't have a cleanup job waiting for them when they finally got home at night, dead beat from their long day working and socializing.

“I don’t remember liberals pushing fast food on society back then.”

There were news stories in the paper and on the TV about how great fast food was: how perfectly healthy it was, how there was nothing wrong with fast food, how it was just as good as home cooked meals, how there were many options available - not just hamburgers, etc...

It WAS pushed on the American public. Not to say that America didn’t soak it up, but it was definitely PUSHED as well.

Everyone should read "Obama's Rules for Revolution" by David Horowitz. It is available at the Freedom Center for $3.00, and fits into your back pocket or purse. Best $3.00 you'll ever spend. It's a must read! Then you'll understand how and why the Left works the way they do. You'll probably want to get more than 25 for $1.00 each after you read it.
