Ominous reports are leaking past the BP Gulf salvage operation news blackout that the disaster unfolding in the Gulf of Mexico may be about to reach biblical proportions.
251 million years ago a mammoth undersea methane bubble caused massive explosions, poisoned the atmosphere and destroyed more than 96 percent of all life on Earth. [1] Experts agree that what is known as the Permian extinction event was the greatest mass extinction event in the history of the world. [2]
55 million years later another methane bubble ruptured causing more mass extinctions during the Late Paleocene Thermal Maximum (LPTM).
The LPTM lasted 100,000 years. [3]
Those subterranean seas of methane virtually reshaped the planet when they explosively blew from deep beneath the waters of what is today called the Gulf of Mexico.
Now, worried scientists are increasingly concerned the same series of catastrophic events that led to worldwide death back then may be happening again-and no known technology can stop it.

//a single PIN HEAD size of oil in a larger-than olympic size pool (just the Gulf region) is dangerous//
Well if that is the situation then no, but it does not look like that is the situation out there. No one knows the vlolume of oil coming out down there, but the estimates have been raised yet again.
Look your math is fine, but I look at what is going on from the satellite photos and other more close up images, and as I see it the magnitude and scale of it, it is not adding up for me.
You are forgetting the about the effects of the oil and the dispersant Corexit combined.
What the Corexit does is keep the oil from binding together so there is no slick.
But the Corexit goes right thru skin etc and it takes the oil with it. Once in the body it ruptures cells including red blood cells. Now anything that breathes water and swims thru that is probably going to die, not to mention porpoises and whales.
Will the Earth fix it? Yes eventually, the question is how long.
So yes I am worried about the ecosystem of the GOM or least large segments of it. It is no doubt that large parts have already been killed. How much more will be killed and how long will it take for a true recovery to happen in the Gulf is the question for me, and that all depending if killing the well is successful.
Thank you for the information....all good to know!
You are certifiable..
Its all over out there.
Uh, ya. A THIN FILM of oil reflecting light, amplified by the government for effect, on the surface of 2 mile deep water.......
Like I said...certifiable...
Don’t forget to start walking to work, turn off your air conditioner, selling your cars, and no more flying to visit anyone...the future of the earth is in your hands.......
LOL! okay
Yes, but...
“It is oil, oil evaporates, oil gets eaten by microbes,..”
Have you heard of Corexit?
I have no problem with Corexit. Apparently you have been hanging around left wing sites too much.
“I have no problem with Corexit. Apparently you have been hanging around left wing sites too much.”
I don’t know of any left wing sites, but you seem to be very familiar with them. Just about every comment you’ve made on this thread mentions them.
Forget I even asked you about Corexit. You have no clue.
Bub-bye...
They have it backwards. An asteroid in the gulf weakened the path down to the oil, while killing off most everything 65 million years ago.
During the week before the disaster, Obama surprisingly announced that he was for off-shore drilling.
Then, shortly after the disaster, Obama announced that he was no longer for off-shore drilling.
Stopped right there. There are some good researchers, but the actions revealed by ClimateGate has besmirched "scientist" for a long time to come.
“Faced with uncertainly and a clearly hostile Obama Administration, deep water oil drilling rigs are starting to pack up and move out of the Gulf of Mexico.”

Here is a thread about actual grownups doing real things to stop the leak, while others whine and yell doomsday.

How BP Gulf disaster may have triggered monkeys flying out of my butt.
Mine too. Chicks always telling me "Dude, those are Biblical proportions!"
“Chicks always telling me “Dude, those are Biblical proportions!”
They’re all a bunch of liars, aren’t they? Can’t trust ‘em!
Tell me you have no problem with this...and I’ll tell you what you’re made of...
Look up Velikofski and his book ‘Earth In Upheaval’ - yet another theory. Enough “settled science” gets unsettled that one should not have a closed mind and simply dismiss new ideas because they conflict with long held beliefs.
