It was usually an effective tactic, another one of those tricks I had learned: People were satisfied so long as you were courteous and smiled and made no sudden moves. They were more than satisfied; they were relieved - such a pleasant surprise to find a well-mannered young black man who didn't seem angry all the time.
Hmmm, and bless my flat-headed ignorance. Here I thought the trans-Saharan slave trade was in full blast in the hands of Arab slavers for centuries before the Portuguese showed up.
The idea that "Portuguese" slave traders were actually Sephardic Jews I'll let other people debate, although I don't know why 18th- and 19th-century writers about the slave trade would pussyfoot about whether the Sephardim were prominent in the slave trade. Some Jewish writers in the 20th century have supposedly (says Lerone Bennett) gone back and determined that yes, some Jewish trading houses were involved in the Transatlantic slave trade. But that doesn't prove that "Portuguese slave traders" = Sephardim.
This clown needs to back up his statements a little better. But meanwhile we all know who the "Arab slave traders" were.
I am becoming more convinced this is an orchestrated tactic to divert the attention from Obama’s failed policies and blame it all on racism.

WHat did he say when she asked if he liked white people?
I listen to “America Left” when I go home from work each weekday. And Fox Talk on the way to work. You folks really should listen to America Left on Sirius radio. The black guy during the late afternoon. Mark something. Scary as hell. He had the leader of the black socialist party on yesterday. I listen just to cringe and enlighten myself. Pretty scary. No wonder Obama got elected. Its hard to believe all the folks who support his looney ideas and call in from all over the country. Most of them total morons.
Great numbers of Chinese have a ferocious work ethic of their own. Certainly those who were motivated to come to the U.S. to study over the last couple of generations.
True story, as-told-to by the father of a former Texas A&M University student who attended back in the early 1980's:
This young undergrad Aggie was studying hard toward the end of a semester and working on a paper. He stayed late in the A&M library every night until closing to work on his research. One night he missed the closing bell and got locked in. He didn't realize it until the last departing staffer turned out the lights, and the security lights came on, which were single floodlights mounted on ever-charging battery packs, blazing away here and there throughout the library. And as he looked around, he saw that every single one of the security lights had a Chinese student sitting under it. And then it dawned on him that they'd been in those spots all evening .... and that he had seen them sitting in the same spots every evening that he'd been there ... studying all night every night to build a Chinese future whose dimensions he could only guess at.
But now we all know the rough outlines of that future they were building for, as the Chinese now tell us to get out of the Western Pacific, telling us that it's a Chinese lake as they prepare to challenge us militarily using weapon designs stolen from us with the help of a suborned and totally-pwned President of the United States who was arguably the best politician of his generation.
Those Chinese sure go for quality, don't they?
But hey, we need to worry about this ankle-biting clown?
