Overall job ratings for the president continue to be below majority level.
PRINCETON, NJ -- Thirty-eight percent of independents approve of the job Barack Obama is doing as president, the first time independent approval of Obama has dropped below 40% in a Gallup Daily tracking weekly aggregate. Meanwhile, Obama maintains the support of 81% of Democrats, and his job approval among Republicans remains low, at 12%.
These data are based on Gallup Daily tracking interviews conducted the week of June 28-July 4.
Over the past year, Obama has lost support among all party groups, though the decline has been steeper among independents than among Republicans or Democrats. Today's 38% approval rating among independents is 18 percentage points lower than the 56% found July 6-12, 2009. During the same period, his support has fallen nine points among Democrats (from 90% to 81%) and eight points among Republicans (from 20% to 12%).
Overall, 46% of Americans approve of the job Obama is doing as president in the June 28-July 4 aggregate, one point above his lowest weekly average. Obama's average weekly job approval rating has not been above 50% since Feb. 8-14, though it reached the 50% mark as recently as May 3-9.

Obama is not alone in facing a challenging second year in office -- Bill Clinton (43%), Ronald Reagan (42%), and Jimmy Carter (40%) all were below the majority approval level in July of their second year. Of course, each of those presidents saw his party lose a substantial number of seats in that year's midterm congressional elections, though both Reagan and Clinton recovered in time to win a second term as president.

the bottom line is also the fact none of those presidents mentioned started with such high approval numbers compared to dumbama and hence- none of the presidents mentioned saw such a huge drop in their numbers...
rat-wingers try to start this argument with me all the time with the Reagan comparison- and when I point out Reagan came into office with an approval rating of 57% versus dumbama, whose number was closer to 70%, they walk away uncomfortable...

Is it any wonder they are going after the Hispanic vote with this fight against Arizona? He looses the Independents and it’s all over - unless he can gain a significant amount of another demographic.
It works if you plan on being the leadership. However, only a few percent will be. The rest are "Useful Idiots" who onyl THINK they will be.
I know. The thing is though that Reagan was implementing an agenda that improved the economy, and Clinton adapted and moved "right" with welfare reform. Also, the country supported the "contract with America" and was not as unhappy by 2006. I don't see that sort of thing coming together this time. Obama will never track right and there is not a unified coherent strategy being articulated the Republicans this time around. I think the electorate will still be angry in 2012.

If the folks with the money to expand their business and hire people after the midterm elections, I’ll say it again, we will get Obama for 2 terms. I can’t believe I would wish for high unemployment to continue just to get his scraggly ass out of the WH, but it’s coming to that for me.
This time may be different, I’m not so sure that people’s memories will fade so quickly when 2012 comes around even if things improve after a Republican congress emasculates this usurper and prevents him from doing more harm. Our tax burden is set to increase because the Bush tax cuts are expiring, and the business community may still think that it’s time to keep going Galt to protect their livelihoods. I’m just not sure this time that these folks will breathe a sigh of relief even after the Republicans take over congress. This weirdo is that scary

Using the three sample groups, the average approval is 43.6%. Which means, the polls is weighted in the Dems favor.
