Common sense is the driving force behind conservatism.

But I do think there are some fringe elements that are totally self centered and call themselves conservative that meets her description that I’m ashamed to be associated with.

That would be the completely disavow any governmental responsibility for the poor and needy, all taxes are theft, as well as the shoot the child for a pack of gum crowd.

"That would be the completely disavow any governmental responsibility for the poor and needy"

If you're OK with the government taking money from MR A to give to Mr B,
because MR A has a lot of money, and MR B has none, you'd love Karl Marx.

"From each according to his ability, to each according to his need."

Man, you're a true blue socialist, and I bet you didn't even know it.

CONGRATULATIONS!

You should be very comfortable in the United Socialist States of Amerika.

Well, that might be because you believe the mischaracterizations by the leftist media!
“Care” for the poor and needy should be ONLY for the poor and needy, and NOT encourage laziness.
As for the tax issue, the government does NOT need MORE of our money, they need to spend what they have more responsibly AND ONLY FOR THOSE FUNCTIONS WHICH ARE THE PERVIEW OF THE GOVERNMENT AS ENVISIONED BY THE CONSTITUTION.
As for “the pack of gum” comment, who knows what you’re referring to?????

That would be the completely disavow any governmental responsibility for the poor and needy,

Charity to the poor and needy is a biblical moral obligation. Charity extracted at gunpoint by the IRS is not really charity.

Ok, we have three claims here.

1) Government ‘charity’ is good. Given the results we’ve seen over time, any rational person would have a hard time believing this. Government welfare programs are notoriously corrupt and inefficient. One is not hard hearted to not favor such waste. They also tend to inculcate a sense of dependency and destroy personal initiative.
2) Taxes are theft- when taxes follow the patter of ‘robbing Peter to pay Paul’, then they are theft. The providing of services to a subset of the population with tax money is nothing but corrupt. A general benefit, like police, courts, or national defense are different.
3) That last bit is stupid hyperbole.
