Oh boy...this is terrible.
I used to worry about this sort of thing back when horses were used to pull the Mardi Gras floats.
Prayers for the injured.
What spooked them?
Ahhh, this is too bad. Prayers and sympathy for everyone touched by this.
They’re horses. Everything spooks them.
A person who answered the phone at the Bellevue Police Department told The Associated Press it would issue a statement shortly.
Happens every now and then in these parades. A few years ago in Tucson, a beautiful young girl got thrown from her horse and killed in a parade. It got spooked by the crowd somehow, and bolted. Turned out she was too young, but her parents had signed a statement that she met minimum age requirements. No doubt they were so proud of her, and couldn’t conceive such a horrible thing would happen. I’m glad I didn’t witness it, an image that would haunt forever.
Gosh, that's true, you can never let your guard down. I had a friend of mine, arm and shoulder crushed when carriage horse got spooked by reflection in mud puddle.
Yeah, but what if somebody dropped one of those big ole’ M-80’s near the horses. You know how mischievous kids can get with stuff...
Thats right. they are living beings, with their own minds and the ability to do what they please.
Prayers for all those injured.
That’s the truth. My camera shutter could set off my daughter’s horse.
“Theyre horses. Everything spooks them.”
And I’ve got the compound fractures to prove. I’m lucky.
It will be interesting to find out what they say. Not even the spookiest horse I ever owned spooked at everything. She needed something in particular to set her off. These horses sound proper spooked. I wonder if it could have been on purpose?
I have a straw hat that spooks horses. Haven’t tried to fighure out why.
As if people wouldn’t be spooked—were the roles and the ratios reversed!
That was might thought. They were really spooked, not just shy away spook. Makes me thing mischief and these days with kids being foreign to the farm...
Ahhh...don’t get me started.
That does it, we gotta outlaw horses now. Just how many horses does one need anyway. They are especially dangerous in the hands of untrained riders, even worse in the hands of bad people. Can’t we just virtually ride horses in video games? I’m sure there are some congressmen who could quote a nonexistant clause in the contitution that specifically states that congress has the right to outlaw horses...
Almost forgot, it’s for the children, if outlawing horses saves just one life...
Here is a link to the local newspaper. http://www.thonline.com/article.cfm?id=288209&em=2 They have been updating it as more information is released. This is a tragedy of huge proportions for Bellevue, a small town along the Mississippi. They were very fortunate that 60 to 70 emergency workers were there to watch the parade and able to respond quickly.
Danbury, Connecticut, about 35 years ago. Truck was deadlined but they put horses in parade anyway. They broke and ran over a junior high school band.
Forgot the casualty count, but was bad,, considering the size, weight and number of horses, and wheels on the beer truck.
