Gov. Christie got the state budget he wanted, and now he's trying to blunt the effects of his severe cuts to towns and school districts.
Using his flair for the dramatic, the governor called New Jersey legislators to a special session during this July Fourth holiday weekend.
Their mission: Put a 2.5 percent lid on local spending, so that if local authorities want to spend more, they will have to ask voters' permission.
New Jersey residents, Christie said in a speech to the Legislature on Thursday, "can't be bound, gagged, and forced to endure ever-higher taxes without their consent."
A polished politician, Christie has molded the state's lingering fiscal crisis into a fiscal conservative's march through Trenton.
Explaining his call for the special session, he said, "I have called you back to Trenton during this summer holiday period, when many escape to the beach or the mountains, because for New Jersey taxpayers, there has been no escape. . . . We do not deserve a break when these taxes are breaking the backs of our families."
He began laying the groundwork for the austere budget months ago, and has been using high-profile venues to become the loudest voice in the room in the debate over it.

Low life down on the Jersey shore?
Life is pretty nice “down on the Jersey shore”, you just have to stay away from Seaside Park, Asbury Park and that town where the MTV show is filmed.
My family owned a summer house in Ortley Beach years ago, it was wonderful.
Oh and stay off the Parkway on the weekends during summer.
It took my daughter two hours to get the vets this morning. She lives in Tuckerton and was going north to Toms River.
I meant that Springsteen was a low life down at the Jersey Shore.
Bruce’s standard ode: is being a Jersey high school drop out, smoking cigs, drinking, getting screwed over cause he was “working class”, wishing he could join some union so he could become a parasite on taxpayers or a company’s back.
Will this bill help or make no difference?
Gov. Christie wanted to play Springsteen songs on the night of his inauguration, “The Boss” threatened to sue or something like that. What a jaska$$.
This would be a bad approach for Washington, D.C.
“We need to get a Republican majority and a leadership of solid conservatives. The more conservatives we get in the Senate the better.”
The Tea Party, et al, have been busy with this agenda for the past year. With victories in SC and UT recently and Buck looking good in CO, as well as Toomey and Rubio, things are setting up nicely.
‘The Boss threatened to sue’
Don’t you just love these ‘stars?’ IDIOTS.

Sometimes music is just music.
Bon Jovi is another lib. Isn’t there any band doing Jersey music that is Repub? South Side Johnnny and the Asbury Jukes?

They have a album “Pills and Ammo.” Ammo? In NJ? Sounds conservative to me.

He’s from Neptune (NJ)!
George Thorogood maybe? No he is the “Delaware Destroyer” so he “ain’t” from Jersey.
Rubio is NOT a Tea Party person. He is for open borders. He is a Bush clan open-borders RINO.
Rubio could have won his race in a blowout until he slipped up and said he was against the AZ law. He is Mel Martinez 2.
I loved Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes! Back in the day they were right up there with Springsteen. We went to the Stone Pony once too.
I always liked S.S. Johnny more than Bruce.
I'm not sure. Part of the reason for my 17% increase over the previous quarter could be anticipation of the Christie Limit. And there are all sorts of problems with limits. They can become automatic increases; and they can be absurd if the value of the dollar changes significantly in one direction or another. I would rather see us work to eliminate ALL spending on programs introduced in the last 35 (or some other reasonable number) year. L-rd knows there is NOTHING the government does for me and my family now that it didn't do 35 years ago. But 35 years ago we had no income tax and the sales tax was 5%. (I think it was 5%.) I'd like to see some governor get back to those old tax levels.

Not with HIS record on illegals and guns!!!
“Not with HIS record on illegals and guns!!!”
Agreed. I really like the guy but he needs to improve a lot on both of those.
Guns appears to be a NJ cultural thing because I know people from there. “You own Guns?!”
Yeah - guns. The things the Revolutionary Army used to win the Battle of Trenton in Trenton NJ. Guns owned by citizen soldiers.
Christie loves New Jersey but he needs to read about it’s history. A lot of the Revolutionary War was fought in NJ so we could own “guns.” We could own them as CITIZENS without some king or bureaucrat’s permission because it was our God given right.

Some folks are already mentioning him as a possible candidate for Prez or VP in 2012.
The FL GOP sucks and is infested with RINOs. Crist is disgusting. I wish all the Bush’s would leave as well and they can take that little pr*ck Connie Mack with them.
