They are blaming BP for using Corexit. But the EPA is allowing them to do it.
Subsea dispersants the right call, EPA administrator believes...
Levine said that at a May 12 meeting with state officials on BP’s dispersant plans, BP Vice President David Rainey warned, “if you’re going to tie our hands, then we don’t own this spill.”
“We will follow whatever their (EPA’s) directives are on this,” Bob Dudley, who this past week succeeded BP CEO Tony Hayward as the face of BP’s response to the disaster in the Gulf...

That's pretty ugly. The audio and camera angle sounded like the camera person was walking in the water. Not a good idea.

Yah, exactly.
This must be the only environmental disaster where you don’t hear a peep out of the eco-fanatics - if this was a Republican President, they would be on CNN 24/7.
Instead, we get crickets.

Yes, he did. But you know, I don’t think he’ll win it again.

I imagine Dick is sitting in that rig out in the distance....surveying his evil plan taking root, chuckling with his shotgun strewn across his shoulder.

Heard something on the radio about a "silt drape" but couldn't find anything.
I'm assuming that this is some sort of fabric membrane.
What is the difference from max high tide and low tide? That's the minimum height that you need.
Sink steel posts or even telephone poles well out from the low tide mark and stretch the barrier, which would let sea water pass. The oil would pool on the seaward side allowing for easier cleanup.
Obviously very inconvenient but the alternative?

Any skimmers in the area? None are showing this evening:
Yellow triangles are skimmers, orange are reponse, green are research and blue are government vessels. Zoom around here.
That link won't last. Here is the homepage. Takes some clicking and looking to figure out how to see the ships and access all the options (forecasts, fishing closures etc).

I graduated from the U of West Florida, and had a condo in Navarre Beach (until a Hurricane got it five years ago). Nauseating!

The cleanup ops are being put on hold as Alex grows in strength. If the wave heights reach 12 ft, the cap will be pulled off the well and ships moved to safety.

Even tho a few miles separate them, Pensacola, Ft Walton Beach, Destin are all along the same stretch of Beach.
We were going to go down there the first week of Sept. for one last time. Just like the others who want to say "goodbye".
I'm praying they won't declare the beach a HazMat area before then.
