MAP OF THE DAY: Are Israel And The U.S. About To Launch A Strike Against Iran?

Gregory White
Jun. 28, 2010, 9:40 AM

The U.S. and Israel appear to be stepping up their pressure on Iran on the chess board of international affairs, with last week seeing a significant movement of U.S. warships to the area.

This adds to previous reports linking Saudi Arabia with Israeli cooperation over a corridor for the country's jets to fly to Iran.

Another potential route for Israeli planes is through the Caucasus, though Turkey has recently denied Israel use of its airspace, which may hamper a northern approach.

You can bet Israel will come from an unexpected direction.

As an old carrier sailor myself, those look like typical 5th and 7th Fleet carrier deployments to me.

“with last week seeing a significant movement of U.S. warships to the area”

This is not significant. There have been numerous “build ups” of US warships sometimes consisting of 3, maybe even 4, carrier battle groups.

No way in Kenya is that order going to come from Slobama.

Obama? Launch a strike?

If Obama sent our forces over there for action, it would only be because he was presented with a fait accompli by Israel.

That is, Israel, or somebody, was going ahead anyway...so do you want to be with us or not?

And, putting aside recent commentary, the Turks have never been particularly fond of the Persians.

It just rattles the Iranians’ cages a bit more. How many psychiatrists are at work in the CIA, NSA and Mossad carefully analyze Ahmedinutjob’s every twitch, figuring out just how much it takes to drive the man crazy?

Plus he’s got to ride herd on the Revolutionary Guard ....

It’s like one of those African tin-pot dictatorships, except with nuclear capabilities. Grim.

I don’t believe Oblahblah will be involved with an IDF attack on Iran. The IDF would never be so apparent in their operations that BI could post it on their website in advance. When the IAF strikes, the world will be caught completely by surprise. The US fleet in the gulf is plain old gunboat dipolmacy, prolly to placate the Saudi’s.

We must remember that the Saudis are running the show. They control us and force Obama to support Israel, whether he likes it or not. Our forces are there to protect the Saudis in case of a counterattack. The Saudis have no intention of letting Iran get nuclear missiles. The Saudis are now Israel’s best friend.

You think President Sissy Drawers would do this? It could interrupt his golf game...apparently that’s the only place he can find balls.

Israel will do all of the work and Obama will take credit for his OK to Israel. Hussein will of course be hoping to change the outcome of the November elections by showing what a pro-Israel, pro-US WARRIOR he is!!!

Well said, the Saudis interests are very significant on this.

So anybody else think that the timing of the G-8 & G-20 was a nice cover with the stories about the world economy (which the Saudis have a huge influence upon) was just a coincidence?

I think that the only wild cards right now are Russia and North Korea.

North Korea has economic ties to the middle east and there was a major meeting last week involving North Korea that was labeled as predicting the new leader for North Korea.

Russia is the wild card that will supply Iran many types of intelligence and arms. If you noted, last week several of the countries that owe Russia money for natural gas purchases, have reached agreements to pay off their natural gas debt and the new natural gas pipeline from Russia to Europe is proceeding through the Scandinavian waters.

It could be a world negotiated strike on Iran. If it is, then my opinion of a State Department lead by Hillary Clinton will be much different.

Obama is a puppet. I am just not sure who the “true” and ultimate puppet-master is, perhaps it is greed.

He is enjoying the trappings of power and the fame and wealth associated with it. He is probably willing to bargain away anything to cement such trappings for the rest of his life.

and, AND, because his pol numbers suck... The only thing thing he can do to get his numbers up is to wield the military with alacrity, showing himself to be decisive and strong... pppaaaleas!

that is what I think too, when we decide to get busy there will be 3 carriers out there like the last two Gulf Wars. 2 is the normal deployment handover.
