A military source close to Gen. David Petraeus told Fox News that one of the first things the general will do when he takes over in Afghanistan is to modify the rules of engagement to make it easier for U.S. troops to engage in combat with the enemy, though a Petraeus spokesman pushed back on the claim.
Troops on the ground and some military commanders have said the strict rules -- aimed at preventing civilian casualties -- have effectively forced the troops to fight with one hand tied behind their backs.
The military source who has talked with Petraeus said the general will make those changes. Other sources were not so sure, but said they wouldn't be surprised to see that happen once Petraeus takes command.
If he does, I will go to church and light a candle!
Does this mean Obama is going to change his failed Afghanistan policy?
It would be nice if we took off the handcuffs on our troops and you didn’t need a special dispensation from the Pope to draw your firearm. It would also be nice if we didn’t broadcast our strategy in advance to the enemy.
It better not be what Obama wants!!!....Reading them their civil rights!!!

If Petraeus changes the rules of engagement, the Secret Service will have to stop him from sending a platoon to the White House.
So killing the enemy will now be authorized?
“Kill ‘em all, let God sort it out” has always been effective at ending wars.

Current ROE are ridiculous and make it impossible to actually win a war. If we are going to fight, we should fight to win. Kill the enemy, wherever they are. If they hold their weapons caches and safehouses in churches and hospitals then they must be destroyed. It’s regrettable but it has to happen. Geneva rules are clear on where the blame falls for civilian casualties in those cases - it’s on the people who put the civilians in harms way in the first place. By putting the gloves of “no attack zones” on our soldiers we virtually guarantee the war will never end.
If we’re not going to fight to win, we should not fight. All that accomplishes is to get our troops killed.
You mean American soldiers will now be permitted to actually FIGHT and DEFEND THEMSELVES?? Hussein CAN’T be happy about THAT!!
We must always remember that the CINC is a Marxist Muslim who doesn’t give a rat’s ass about our national security and achieving victory in Afghanistan. He won’t even allow his adminstration to use terms like Radical Islam or the War on Terror. He is ONE OF THEM. Proof: Here was what I read in Investor’s Business Daily 06/17/2010: (page A10)

I am sure it will work with the media and the sheep that graze on their manure, but the old dogs in the military know that it all came directly from the White House.
This one may still get very interesting before the end of summer.

1. On Monday, Wednesday, Fridays: soldiers permitted ammo
2. On Tue, Thursday, Saturday: Soldiers permitted body armor.
3. Alterante Sundays troops must stand on Kandahar street corner without weapons or armor with arms outstretched and chests bared with bullseye painted over hearts.
4. Christmas: must enter Allah Beheading Raffle. Winners get gift-wrapped heads-in-boxes from Islam of Misfit Toys.
5. Easter: Bridge hanging Contest. Troops turned over to Fallujah/Samarra type jihadists for spread-eagling on bridge abutments.
6. Obama gets secret video via UPS.
