The white-clad nurse photographed kissing an American soldier in Times Square at the end of World War II has died at the age of 91, USA Today reported Wednesday.
Edith Shain, then a nurse at Doctor's Hospital in New York City, said she was grabbed and kissed by an unknown American soldier on 14 August 1945. The picture taken by Alfred Eisenstaedt was published in Life magazine and came to symbolize America's victory over Japan.
Shain died at her home in Los Angeles on Sunday, family members confirmed.

This photo immortalizes what America once was and the type of people that made it great. Now, look at what we have.
That’s a Sailor. Sheesh ....
Great scene...”C’mere Toots!”
Studies show that kissing is deadly.
“The Press” is a bunch of idiots.
In 2010, the sailor would get sued for sexual harassment and assault.
That's what we have...nice huh?!?
I was shocked when I saw the story on the local news ~2 weeks ago regarding the explosion in oral cancer rates.
Hell, the whole scene would be a riot, burning cars and trashing businesses, just like when their sports team wins a title.
Hey, it was a long cruise

Indeed.
Back when we liked ourselves, knew inherently that we were the good guys, and didn’t think twice about annihilating our enemies.
The moral relativism (good is bad, the sky is whatever color you want it to be, etc), of the Left’s counterculture horse$hit, destroyed all of that.
I did a presentation in a graduate class on “Oral s— Can Kill you” Bet Clinton did not read it!
Was the sailor in the photo ever identified?
Yes
I can see it now.. ambulance-chasing attorneys turn sailor-chasing, and not in a good way.
SAILOR, SAILOR, SAILOR! Idiot journalists. I proudly wore those dress blues and white hat (w/wings—you bet!) and embroidered dragons on the back side of my jumper cuffs that the SPs would look for when on liberty. BUTTON THOSE CUFFS sailor!! LOL!
Only you swabs know what I’m talkin’ about...
“regarding the explosion in oral cancer rates”.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I just finished my 6th cup of coffee for the a.m.. ;o)
He acted for a lot of sailors. It was a heavy responsibility .
Awww... rest in peace, Edith...
Still have mine. Bought a tailored set in China town, San Fran on while on liberty in 1968. Nice cool gabardines with incredible fancy worked dragons inside the cuffs and elsewhere.
