World Cup ratings hit a 16-year high in U.S.
Through the first 14 matches of the World Cup, ESPN and ABC have delivered an average crowd of 3.35 million viewers, marking a 64% increase from the same period in 2006, when the networks drew 2.9 million fans.
Until the Taliban or Al Queada fields a team, I’m not interested. Soccer bores me and the Olympics were a lot more exciting during the Cold War. But to each his own. I’m happy for my fellow Americans.
What bothers me is the rest of the world that constantly pound on America in their sports columns about how America should care about soccer. Memo to the rest of the world, we could win this world cup and I don’t think soccer would rise that much in popularity in America. It’s just not going to happen.
