PRETORIA, South Africa – Landon Donovan scored in the first minute of stoppage time off a rebound, advancing the United States to the second round at the World Cup with a 1-0 win over Algeria.

With the U.S. perhaps three minutes from elimination, Jozy Altidore was stopped on a breakaway by goalkeeper Rais Bolihi. Donovan hustled in and kicked in the rebound to win Group C Wednesday.

I love curling. It's almost like meditation watching it.

And Canada has one of the prettiest women in sports on their team.

Congrats. The bookmakers odds are against a Ghana win tonight (http://www.bookies.com/betting-odds/football/world-cup-2010/main-tournament/group-stage/group-d/ghana-v-germany/match-result/) so I think it’s unlikely that Germany will play against the US next sunday. It will be England-Germany.

"No, that’s was just one way of saying that I read the piece at the link you posted, and it doesn’t support you. You are simply being too sensitive."

Wow, can't even admit when I made my point and I'm the sensitive one... At least I can admit when someone has made a point. I may or may not agree with it, but when someone backs up their statements with examples from a link, I can admit that.

yawn ...

What a childish remark.  You came here knowing it was about World Cup Soccer.  I do not go to links about basketball since I do not care for basketball, yet you come to a soccer thread knowing you hate soccer.  Wow.

You need to grow a thicker skin.

And you need to get a less than thicker head. =)

Sorry, friend. If you had a valid point, you would have taken the portion of the piece you think supports your opinion and posted it here. Then I would have demonstrated why you are being too sensitive. And lazy.

I’m not looking for affirmation . . . there are some very creative anti-soccer types out there. You just aren’t one of them.

"Sorry, friend. If you had a valid point, you would have taken the portion of the piece you think supports your opinion and posted it here."

If you thought it didn't support my position, you would have posted why it didn't support my position. The whole article supports my position. However, here you go.

"What will you do, America, if your team implodes Wednesday?

What will you do, America, if Algeria runs the U.S. not only out of Pretoria but all the way out of the World Cup?

Will you care? Will you cry? Or will you simply shrug and say, "That's soccer," and move along to something else?

Your reaction matters. It matters to all 23 players who will be on the field and on the bench Wednesday afternoon at 107-year-old Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Oh, we should all care so much if the USA team loses. Why? Because soccer is so important in England. Please!!! Did anyone write an article the day before the U.S. Open's last day chastising Great Brittian that they should care if scottsman Grahame McDowell loses or wins. No...

The one that needs to grow a thicker skin is yourself. You can't handle anyone criticizing soccer. What I can't stand is when the rest of the world continues to look down on us because they all know better than us what we should do in Afghanistan, watch as sport etc... Its the same pious attitude...

Oh and to answer Grahamme's question, we'll say That's Soccer!! And move along to something else...

It will be England-Germany.

Let the chants of "Two World Wars and One World Cup Doo-Dah Doo-Dah" begin.

Sure. Right after you give me a foot massage. Like I said, lazy.

"Your reaction matters."

LOL--Mommy, mommy! The bad, bad LA Times writer observed that a win bodes well for the future, while a loss . . . not so much! Make him stop!

Again, why the insecurity? Do you need to show us on this doll where the LA Times writer touched you?

“Thanks to illegal immigration.” - I am convinced that is a big part of the growth of soccer. Living in S TX, it is sometimes hard to put up with the attitude the messkins (legal and not) around here have regarding soccer. They seem to think that soccer is ‘their’ sport; USA Anglos need not apply. Mexico is ‘their’ team. And when one politely suggests they go live there so they can really support their team, you get every answer from ‘make me’ to ‘FU gringo’. I guess that like most of the folks that invade our country daily and the muslim infestation already present, they are not here to assimilate. (No DUH!)
