PRETORIA, South Africa Landon Donovan scored in the first minute of stoppage time off a rebound, advancing the United States to the second round at the World Cup with a 1-0 win over Algeria.
With the U.S. perhaps three minutes from elimination, Jozy Altidore was stopped on a breakaway by goalkeeper Rais Bolihi. Donovan hustled in and kicked in the rebound to win Group C Wednesday.

not sure what BAMFS are but I just appreciate athletes that don’t necessarily get the big bucks nor the big tv play....

Yup this is good for the USA if only in some small way. We need something to rally around now, like in 1980 w hockey. Similar crap presidents similar need for feeling good about America again. Plus nothing grinds the world more than us succeeding at “their” sport haha hence the officiating taking away our clear goals. Despite that our boys prevailed and never quit. I had goosebumps when they scored and I’m usually apathetic to soccer but the world cup is a hoot

Why would you seek out a thread on soccer just for the purposes of posting in that thread how much you hate soccer?
It was Breaking News I sought, not soccer.
I’m sorry, was there something mysterious or confusing about the title of this thread?
To: jimmygrace
Think of the World Cup referees as a mini United Nations. Most of them simply hate the United States, have no real scruples, and will do what they can to hurt the US team. It’s why alot of people are disgusted with soccer.

I loathe soccer, even more so when it occupies space in the Breaking News sidebar.

"Yes, who in their right mind would want to play the Germans in the first game of the knock out rounds." Be prepared for a Blitzkreig... : ) Don't mention the war!

Well I think making it out of the group stage is a start, but not enough to be breaking news. The US winning the world cup, now that would indeed be breaking news.
On the other hand, there's so much punditry and gossip in the BN column which isn't really news, either.

My wife is German, so we have lots of fun rooting for both the Stars-N-Stripes and Die Mannschaft. But when it’s US-vs-Deutschland, we’re solidly Team USA. If Germany takes the #1 position, we wouldn’t get a chance to avenge the 2002 quarterfinals until the final, but we’d probably have to beat both Brazil and Netherlands along the way, so the Krauts may have an easier path than us.

"I dont see anyone pushing anything on me, and if they did I wouldnt pay any attention to it. Why the insecurity?"
You don't read about your beloved sport too much. I barely read about it but I have read articles and seen commentators on TV on this subject. Here's one from Englishman Grahamme Jones:

No insecurity. I'm just tired of the rest of the world telling me what sport I should be following. I hear it on talk shows from the soccer acolytes in this country also.

So when I prove my point, this is all you can come back with? Nice...

Im sorry, was there something mysterious or confusing about the title of this thread?Although you were quick to respond to it, the point of my first (now gone) post"[this] does not belong in News, much less Breaking News!!"was mysteriously lost on you.
Sheesh. Poor little soccer snobs can't stand a contrary opinion without getting all defensive about their precious game.

No, that’s was just one way of saying that I read the piece at the link you posted, and it doesn’t support you. You are simply being too sensitive.
