Sarah Palin: Smoking Pot Is No Big Deal
AOL ^ | 6/18/10 | Mara Gay

Posted on 06/19/2010 9:13:23 AM PDT by nmh

Sarah Palin says recreational pot smoking is "relatively speaking a minimal problem" in America.

...

"I think we need to prioritize our law enforcement efforts," she said. "If somebody's gonna smoke a joint in their house and not do anybody any harm, then perhaps there are other things our cops should be looking at to engage in and try to clean up some of the other problems we have in society."

Allen St. Pierre, the director of NORML, which supports liberalizing drug laws, said Palin's position on pot is perfectly in line with her identity as a politician.

"If you're a populist as she appears to be, it's maybe not that surprising," he told AOL News in a phone interview today.

I am not ignorant of the ills of dope and that is why its called dope, But in the grand scheme of things its pretty low on the problems facing the United States,

The pot smoking is a symptom of much bigger problems in these United States and whining about pot smokers is just a red herring.

Yes its LOW on my list and will remain that way.

Jim Robinson endorses Sarah Palin. That's good enough for me. < shrugs >

Sarah's right.

It's no more of a big deal than drinking alcohol, and that's legal. In fact, alcohol has a tendency to make people aggressive while pot mellows then out.

It's a bit hypocritical of society to ban pot when a more dangerous drug (alcohol) is just a store away.

Just because there are higher priorities doesn’t mean that we disregard lower priorities.

That being said, I disagree with the logic of the argument more than the policy.

Those who posit that smoking marijuana should be legalized (and Sarah P. did not say that!) ‘cause alcohol is legal just don’t want to get the point. We don’t need another drug — esp. one that with increased availability, will increasingly be used by our younger population — and making more folks stupid.

ah, but the headline serves a better purpose of muddying up Gov Palin! She can have HER priorities, and so do the headline writers. As do a self-righteous few who don’t like her to begin with.

....Palin is a Populist.....

It sure is starting to seem so more and more with each passing week. So much for standing by ones conservative principles.

Well, she's right. Government should not be concerned with what drugs people are using.

pot smoking Satan worship is relatively speaking a minimal problem -- I think we need to prioritize our law enforcement efforts. If somebody's gonna smoke a joint worship Satan in their house and not do anybody any harm, then perhaps there are other things our cops should be looking at to engage in and try to clean up some of the other problems we have in society.

It's a good defense of bestiality too, which is even more minimal. Only they didn't ask her that yet.

Add this to the list of evidence to indicate that Sarah Palin is NOT an idiot.

Agreed.

I don't like it and I don't think it should be legal. However, it should be a misdemeanor with a fine.

They need to stop wasting time and resources.

Truly pot is far worse than drinking alcohol in certain areas, like driving, thinking, activities that require alertness. Pot will even bring out a psychosis in some people that otherwise would not have occurred. The entire purpose of pot is to 'trip" on it, get "high", and the stronger the pot the more it screws up the thinking. As for alcohol, it's only dangerous if you drink too much of it, or if you're an alcoholic. However, it's been a bain to mankind since man first crushed grapes to make alcohol. They are both bad, alcohol is a narcotic, pot is a mind altering drug. And don't forget, not all that long ago alcohol was made illegal in America, and for good reason, it had profound impacts on so many families in American that the "abstinance" movement began and grew for decades until it's goal was reached. Illegal booze.

The problem in America is excess with everything. Drugs, booze, sex, food, lust for money, lust for power. And we definately live in a generation of "ME", only "ME". Which makes it easy for younger people to do everything in excess, making whatever they do become dangerous to themselves, or to other.
