Sarah Palin: Smoking Pot Is No Big Deal
AOL ^ | 6/18/10 | Mara Gay

Posted on 06/19/2010 9:13:23 AM PDT by nmh

Sarah Palin says recreational pot smoking is "relatively speaking a minimal problem" in America.

...

"I think we need to prioritize our law enforcement efforts," she said. "If somebody's gonna smoke a joint in their house and not do anybody any harm, then perhaps there are other things our cops should be looking at to engage in and try to clean up some of the other problems we have in society."

Allen St. Pierre, the director of NORML, which supports liberalizing drug laws, said Palin's position on pot is perfectly in line with her identity as a politician.

"If you're a populist as she appears to be, it's maybe not that surprising," he told AOL News in a phone interview today.

Thanks for the WHOLE quote

You're welcome.

I felt the full quote, along with an outline of the background environment in which she developed her philosophy, illuminates the logic behind her remarks.

Smoking pot is not a big deal.

Smoking pot and then voting is a huge deal.

'Nuff said.

I just want to redefine what “cruel and unusual punishment” is considered.

I don’t believe, in any form, that any method chosen by an offender to mete out punishment on an innocent can possibly be considered either “cruel or unusual punishment” when used on the person who did the crime. After all, if he thought it was cool for use on the innocent, how can’t he consider it cool to be used on him, three-fold over?

It’s simple logic.

I have noticed a lot of real conservatives have been forced out of the running.

Gee, I thought that was what we were looking for; not liars who are RINOS who only say what you want to hear.

I think it’s an exaggeration to say that alcohol is the worst drug. I’m sure a higher percentage of people who use meth and crack have it damage their lives than those who use alcohol. So many more people use alcohol than the hard drugs. One Sam Adams is a lot less dangerous than one snort of cocaine.

Anything that’s mind altering is not conducive to good citizenship. People should not drink and drive, etc., they should also not smoke pot and drive - I hope and am pretty sure Palin is against that - she did talk about someone being in their home, and not hurting someone, as a context.

I’m not quite sure what the point is in chiming in on this for SP - other than to ‘cross over’ into the libertarian/hippie crowd? Does she really think she’s going to draw well in that demographic? LOL.

Alcoholics have much more problems than recreational pot users. Explain why recreational pot use is a big deal, and why it’s any of our business if a neighbor or acquaintance uses pot recreationally. I have friends that smoke pot and are more successful than myself, I have friends on the other end of the spectrum. It really all comes down to abuse, and it’s much easier to abuse alcohol than it is to abuse marijuana.

I used to work with a pot user. She screwed everything up and was spaced out so much you couldn’t talk to her. You wouldn’t believe what we had to clean up.

Wasn’t caught until we got hired by the company and had drug tests. She used her dog’s urine.

No thanks. They are in another world.

“What would be the difference with marijuana if it were legal? It would not be legal to drive while high, you moron.”

Many people drink socially, not to get drunk. I really don’t know anyone that smokes pot socially, NOT to get high. Do you? Watch the quickdraw ‘moron’ reference!

I suppose there are degrees of being high - how are we going to easily measure impairment by marijuana?

“There is no breathalyzer test for pot. I see higher auto insurance premiums. Can you imagine flying at 35,000 feet in a jumbo jet with all, the pilots zonked out and eating brownies and smoking dope. It okay and legal if they ever had a headache or menstrual cramps. LOL”

How ‘moron’ic is it to ask such questions??!

What about smoking pot and driving? How will you test for that easily?
