Sarah Palin says recreational pot smoking is "relatively speaking a minimal problem" in America.

"I think we need to prioritize our law enforcement efforts," she said. "If somebody's gonna smoke a joint in their house and not do anybody any harm, then perhaps there are other things our cops should be looking at to engage in and try to clean up some of the other problems we have in society."
Allen St. Pierre, the director of NORML, which supports liberalizing drug laws, said Palin's position on pot is perfectly in line with her identity as a politician.
"If you're a populist as she appears to be, it's maybe not that surprising," he told AOL News in a phone interview today.

Some of my best friends in college were pre-med students.
A group of them has an apartment off campus which was a hangout for many of the other “cool” pre-med students.
Frequently when you entered their apartment the marijuana smoke was so thick you could literally- and I swear I am not exaggerating- get high just taking a step in.
You will find these guys today in the listings of “Best Doctors” in the some major cities.

And I happen to agree with her, there’s more important things for LEOs to do before they get around to kicking down doors and waving guns in some wild eyed search for a fairly common herb.
Sarah’s absolutely right. The biggest supporters of dry counties in NC when I was growing up were the bootleggers. There’s BIG money in keeping pot illegal.

Well said, but don't expect that to save you from the petty drug war fascists. It's a conservative position to want to keep the government out of our homes, backyards, and to respect individual choice and privacy. Trying to claim the opposite is an absurd inversion of what it means to be conservative.
And, as you have noted, alcohol, a legal drug, is the worst drug on the face of god's green earth, by a long shot. It's responsible for more death and destruction than all others combined. The hypocrisy of the drug war apologists is breathtaking. The only intellectually honest position to take would be for prohibitionists to include alcohol as well on the list of banned substances.
It is legal to ingest tobacco into your body even though it increases your risk of cancer and other health problems. It is legal to drink even though prolonged exposure to alcohol damages the body as well and people under the influence have been known to engage in rank stupidity, amoral sexual behavior and or violence.
Smoking marijuana though, why that is just wrong.
But booze is cool, right?

No need to speculate; the "occasional" pot smoker doesn't develop lung cancer (or any significant pulmonary disease). Now that I've settled that matter, I can't unfortunately, begin to speculate on the relative CNS effects of a six-pack versus a joint. Believe the "expert opinion" of your choice for that.
The dorms I lived in during college, you could smell pot smoke 24/7. I've been torn over this issue for years: pot, booze, etc. should be strictly verboten for kids. For adults, in the privacy of their own homes? That's a different matter.
Haven't been near the stuff in decades. My employer tests new employees as a condition of employment, no skin off my back.
Sorry Doc, but I'll take a bottle of Mosel Auslese or a six pack of German beer over a joint every day of the week.
Maybe a six pack everyday might be a little much. That's the equivalent of a case of Coors Light or Budweiser. Since I've been hitting the gym 4-5 days a week, I think I could handle a liter a day without deleterious effects.
I never understood the big deal about the recreational pot smoker in the privacy of there home. Alcohol and cigarettes are a far more dangerous and addictive substance and they are legal. People always get in a twist about pot when there is way more important things to worry about.
