President Obama came into office as the heir to a great foreign policy legacy enjoyed by every recent U.S. president. Why? Because the United States stands on top of the power ladder, not necessarily as the dominant power, but certainly as the leading one. As such we are the sole nation capable of exercising global leadership on a whole range of international issues from security, trade, and climate to counterterrorism. We also benefit from the fact that most countries distrust the United States far less than they distrust one another, so we uniquely have the power to build coalitions. As a result, most of the world still looks to Washington for help in their region and protection against potential regional threats. Click here to find out more!
Yet, the Iraq war lingers; Afghanistan continues to be immersed in an endless cycle of tribalism, corruption, and Islamist resurgence; Guantánamo remains open; Iran sees how North Korea toys with Obama and continues its programs to develop nuclear weapons and missiles; Cuba spurns America's offers of a greater opening; and the Palestinians and Israelis find that it is U.S. policy positions that defer serious negotiations, the direct opposite of what the Obama administration hoped for.
The reviews of Obama's performance have been disappointing. He has seemed uncomfortable in the role of leading other nations, and often seems to suggest there is nothing special about America's role in the world. The global community was puzzled over the pictures of Obama bowing to some of the world's leaders and surprised by his gratuitous criticisms of and apologies for America's foreign policy under the previous administration of George W. Bush.

Peggy has already started her CYA writing. I will never forgive her for supporting Obummer.
I'd like to drop a copy of this off on his desk.
An Paul “fool on the hill” McCartney says he’s doing great too, so LAY OFF! /s
Zero is a buffoon. Except for a few die hards, the Obama worshipers will continue to fade away and forget that they had supported him.
I wouldn't waste my time going to one of her lectures again.
I totally agree with you, when this type of narcissist loses the adulation that he needs to live, what will he do? We have already seen his unpleasant reactions to the most minor of criticism. His skin is gossamer-thin.
The Platters 1955 OH OH OH YES!
And a good Saturday morning to you...I must say that your posts are most enjoyable.
As Freepers have noted, the fourth estate is a fifth column and the real question is what will they do when the accumulated damage from the idiocy of the elites finally smacks them (and us) up-aside the head (rural Virginia idiom, there).
I would like your opinion relative to the ability of the media and political elites to really ever understand the road to tyranny we are on...I have acquaintances (charitable term) from the university who like Obamao and would ask, as the Islamonazis sawed off their heads, “What did I do to upset them so...?” Or when the dollar is devalued to the level of Zimbawe’s currency, “We just needed more stimulus, faster, didn’t we..?”
There is a large cadre of such folks in powerful positions who are simply ineducable. Like the few genuine Marxists I knew in Leningrad years ago. They will ultimately cause the more educable to receive an education none of us want, before they disappear from the scene.
“Them what can’t learn, have to feel.” (my blessed and departed grandfather).

As always nathanbedford you write eloquently and with great wisdom.
In regards to Nixon, I have always felt that he had justification for his “paranoia” the left really was out to get him. He was having success in Viet Nam that they had failed horribly at. He was passing consumer laws that were their issues and he was getting the credit for them. They viewed him as a threat to their power. They owned the media completely back then. I wonder if Nixon would have had the same results now as back then? I am thinking that he would have survived the attacks because we have conservative media that brings the truth to many people and of course this wonderfully liberating internet.
I hope he continues to party hardy. That may be the only thing that keeps him sane.
People like Zuckerman put this pretender in the whitehouse and hate watching money flowing out the whazoo to nowhere.
Too little too late Zuckerman. You have my total disgust. How do you like the change?
Great Read!! Nice to know that Mort Zuckerman now believes the BASS is an IDIOT and Incompetent! OBOZO is a Raging IDIOT and MORON! Imagine why someone would conceal their ENTIRE PAST!! and that both he and his wife were forced by reasons unknown to the public to turn in their LAW LICENSES within a few years of passing their respective Bar Exams! Remember the lengths that the Clintoons went to keep their Licenses as wellas Sandy Burglar! Its Bullcrap that they just didn’t want to be bothered anymore with the annual fees or CEU’s! And William Ayers had to write the Idiot’s “MEMOIRS!”
I interpreted bert's comment as a compliment to FReepers.
“I interpreted bert’s comment as a compliment to FReepers.”
I may have misinterpreted bert’s remarks
Good question. The corollary is whether the anti Vietnam mania would be as noisy today. I wonder, on the other hand if an Obama could have been elected in the 60's. After all, we had Kennedy, all glamor and no content.
This is a terrific thread. It raises a fundamental issue. How do we protect ourselves from electing candidates who are not only incompetent but who oppose the very foundational structures of our culture?
“How do we protect ourselves from electing candidates who are not only incompetent but who oppose the very foundational structures of our culture?”
This is precisely where our journalists failed us. When ideology trumps truth, we all lose. Including those who support the ideology. I think that America needs to have this discussion, particularly within the journalist profession. But also, among ourselves...thank God we have the internet and we can get information from so many sources now. Used to be that main stream journalists could ‘defend’ themselves by saying that they fact checked, etc. but they have proven that they also suffer from being able to tell the truth. Look at how they go after people like Sarah Palin so horribly simply because she represents an ideology (Americanism) that they dislike.
Take it from one who knows. ;)
I my oppinion Newt said the same thing when he said he’s not doing this intentionally “He’s just incompetent”.
