PHOENIX -- Dozens of these young Latino men have crossed the border into Arizona. Some are just teenagers, some are in the United States for the first time. Many don't speak English.
Illegal immigrant fighter sheriff Joe Arpaio need not be concerned. They already have all the paperwork an immigrant -- and baseball player -- could want.
The Arizona Rookie League starts Monday, with some 150 or so prospects from Latin America taking part. Unless a court decides otherwise, the state's much-debated immigration law will take effect on July 29. The season ends a month later.

Yawnnnnnnnnn...If I’m a foreigner in Mexico, Germany, India or any other country I HAVE TO CARRY ID. No big deal. Why is this a story?
‘cause Arizona is racist that’s why. /s
If you’re a foreigner in THIS country you have to carry ID all of the time.
Non-stop propaganda from the Democrats and the State Run Media.
If you are not a Mexican citizen, you will end up in the slammer in Mexico if you don’t have your ID with you.
In other words, teams ask players (presumably foreign-born non-citizen players) to follow US LAW. When you enter this country, you are advised to keep your passport AND visa with you at all times as a non-citizen. As a resident alien, you are legally obligated to have you alien registration card with you at all times, per the US code.
AZ is asking nothing more than the federal law demands. It's that simple.
That doesn't cut it. The FEDERAL LAW requires people visiting the US legally to have their paperwork with them at all times.
FWIW, this was a common practice in many European countries & hotels several decades ago, or longer. But since the advent of the European union, this is no longer practiced in Europe. HOWEVER, there are plenty of countries in Asia and Euroasia where this practice does go on.
Should be a matter of course. I carry a state ID and if I travel outside the US, I have a passport. Should be a requirement for everyone. The writer is making it seem like baseball players in Arizona should fear if they don’t have ID.
I can't say for sure but, evidently, it's based on the special visas athletes receive. Ballclubs have only a limited number to work with.
And I can assure you that no major league organization is going to take a chance in theses matters. They all have lawyers who specialize in visa work and nobody wants their 17-yr old Dominican to get cross-wise with the law.
Can anyone imagine NOT carrying one’s driver’s license with them at all times???
Now who in the heck goes around without ID these days?
Oh yeah, I forgot.
Um, yeah. Carry identification to prove you are in the country legally. Duh.
If you are a brown American citizen who left your drivers license at home while driving in Maricopa County AZ, and get stopped by Sheriff Joe's Posse, you will go to jail.
I always carry ID, and my folks have been here legally for almost 400 years.
Mine stays in the truck. I don't carry it with me when I'm on foot.

I wonder how many will end up skipping out.
None, usually.
Eventually, some will flunk out. And they'll return to their country of origin on a pre-paid airline ticket.
All Mexicans in Mexico are required to carry their Mexican Voter Identification cards with them at all times. Mexican police stop anybody they want for little on no reason. If people cannot prove Mexican citizenship they are sent south of the Mexican border. Short brown skinned people are profiled as Guatamalans or Hondurans. If I were a Mexican I would much prefer to be arresed in USA than in Mexico.
God Bless the Maricopa County Sheriff and his deputies.
How many white skinned people are residents of Mexico attempting to cross into America illegally.....
Do you suppose if a white skinned person went to Mexico and was stopped and had no ID he would be more likely to end up in jail than a brown skinned person? You betcha...you see the Mexicans don’t think there are too many whites traveling in Mexico without ID that are not up to something illegal...
Works both ways doesn’t it...
