Eight days ago, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal ordered barges to begin vacuuming crude oil out of his state's oil-soaked waters. Today, against the governor's wishes, those barges sat idle, even as more oil flowed toward the Louisiana shore.
Towns along the coast are through waiting for the government?s help. "It's the most frustrating thing," the Republican governor said today in Buras, La. "Literally, yesterday morning we found out that they were halting all of these barges."
Sixteen barges sat stationary today, although they were sucking up thousands of gallons of BP's oil as recently as Tuesday. Workers in hazmat suits and gas masks pumped the oil out of the Louisiana waters and into steel tanks. It was a homegrown idea that seemed to be effective at collecting the thick gunk.
"These barges work. You've seen them work. You've seen them suck oil out of the water," said Jindal.

Who Jindal or Obama? The governor should have taken control of his state a month ago. Glad he is finally acting. It is unusual for a weepublican to actually act boldly.
Who said “Never let a crisis go to waste”? Dang. His name is on the tip of my tongue....
They could also bring in the Chris Matthews and the Mika Brzezinski.
I’m limiting my comments to the context of the headlines. I have no idea about the nature of the constraints Jindal must contend with.
It wouldn’t surprise me if the Fed gave Jindal a smackdown letting him and the rest of the Country know who’s really in charge.
It is precisely the country Americans deserve for electing a liar and con man as president who has absolutely NO EXPERIENCE.
That is hard to argue with.
""These barges work. You've seen them work. You've seen them suck oil out of the water," said Jindal."

"Crude-Sucking Barges Stopped by Coast Guard"
It’s because Zero can’t suck it up with a straw! Oh....wait.....someone else is sucking it up with a straw?
Well that just won’t do. It’s all about HIM, not US!
Jindal should have dispatched state troopers to the scene and forced a stand off.
Fritz Hollings would have agreed with you.
“the sorriest bunch of bureaucratic jackasses I’ve ever known.”
Zatyou, Larry Sinclair?
And he takes them from?...
Me too. I think. Maybe. (Maybe not, I'd guess she's tell Janet to suck it up and deal with it!)
It shouldn’t be. The USCG is one of the finest services that exist.
ABC news is trying to smear them with the headline.
You also need to know that their primary mission is to save lives, so boats are inspected for safety.
The mixing of their mission to save lives with an EPA instigated oil cleanup chores confuses people and makes them a target for an animosity that they do not deserve. They have been a conventient scapegoat for the last two administrations and good men, doing their duty have been forced to take the fall for oil spills caused by federal law allowing broken down chinese ships with no english speakers in their crew to talk to the pilot boat to enter our harbors and spill their fuel.
The administration is despicable for setting the Coast Guard up and then not allowing them to do the job as they need to do it.
The administration has done the same thing to our armed forces in Afghanistan, forcing them to use UN rules of engagement so they cannot win, which puts their lives into even more danger.
Any animosity you have should be pointed at the people in the government who have forced the whole mess on us with their rotten green socialist anti american anti military agenda funded by the global corporations who are out to destroy our economy in order to redistribute our wealth around the world.
You’re right.
And the same with the fellow travelers in the bureaucracy everywhere....
