Is President Obama the Worst President in History?
Townhall.com ^ | June 16, 2010 | Ben Shapiro

Posted on 06/16/2010 7:04:20 AM PDT by Kaslin

I host a radio show on WEUS 810 AM in Orlando, Fla., on Sundays 1-4 p.m. EST. On last week's show, I had firebrand Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) as a guest. "Is President Obama better or worse than Jimmy Carter?" I asked her. "Worse. Easily worse," she replied. She went on to say that without question, Obama was the worst president in U.S. history.

Is it true?

There are only two other true contenders for the title of "worst president in U.S. history": Jimmy Carter and James Buchanan. Warren G. Harding's tenure was corrupt but not disastrous, and Andrew Johnson's presidency failed because of his Southern roots and wrongful adherence to extreme states rights concepts in the aftermath of the Civil War, not because his administration effectuated any grave damage to the nation. Only Buchanan matches the record of incompetence, failure and wrongheadedness pursued by Obama.

Take Jimmy Carter, for example. He was responsible for the fall of the Shah in Iran and the subsequent rise of the Ayatollahs. He emboldened the Soviets to invade Afghanistan. He oversaw the Three Mile Island incident and presided over a high unemployment rate of 7.1 percent and staggering inflation and interest rates, both of which topped 18 percent by early 1980. His presidency saw gas rationing and shortages, the surrender of the Panama Canal and the boycott of the 1980 Olympics. Pretty bad by any measure.

During his entire first term, Carter's record doesn't touch the Obama administration's record in its first year and a half. Obama has already tacitly OK'd the Iranian nuclear program and derided Israel's nuclear program. He has allowed Iranian protestors to be slaughtered in the streets without so much as a peep for days on end. Obama has allowed the Russians to sponsor an uprising in Kyrgyzstan that resulted in the removal of a U.S. airbase. He has lent legitimacy to an Islamist Turkish government and sold American debt to a communist Chinese government that supports North Korea. He has presided over the largest oil spill in world history in the Gulf of Mexico and spent his efforts blaming everyone but himself.

He's poised to raise our taxes at the end of the year. He's pushing for comprehensive "immigration reform" that will really act as an amnesty for illegal immigrants. He has denigrated Arizona before Mexico, bowed before the king of Saudi Arabia and the Chinese president and the Japanese emperor, hugged a Venezuelan quasi-dictator, and undermined a constitutional uprising in Honduras. He has pushed carbon taxes and gas taxes and estate taxes. He has propped up unfit mortgage borrowers and penalized those who pay their mortgage on time. He has bailed out his buddies in the banking industry and nationalized the auto and health industries for the benefit of his union friends.

He has insulted the Cambridge police and defended Muslim terrorists like Maj. Nidal Hassan. He has utilized advisers who are Marxists (former Green Jobs Czar Van Jones), anti-Semites (foreign policy adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski, special adviser Samantha Power, National Security Adviser Adm. James Jones), racists (Attorney General Eric Holder), sycophantic pro-Islamists (Deputy National Security Adviser for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism John Brennan), kooks (Director of White House Office of Science and Technology John Holdren), perverts (Safe Schools Czar Kevin Jennings), and paid thugs (Rahm Emanuel).

When Obama took office, the national debt was just under $10 trillion. Now it is $12 trillion, and by 2015, it will be at least $19.6 trillion. Unemployment under Obama increased to 9.7 percent, up from 7.6 percent when Bush left office. The inflation rate has yet to explode, but most economists believe it will have to unless Obama drastically raises taxes, destroying the economy even further.

Carter can't touch this guy.

As for Buchanan, the man was a symptom of his times -- an active supporter of admitting Kansas to the Union as a slave state and of Chief Justice Roger Taney's execrable opinion in Dred Scott. He was also responsible for a near-war in Utah against the Mormons, inflation of the currency, and the abominable state of the Union's military position at the beginning of the Civil War.

It would be difficult for Obama to top this record of pure disgrace -- after all, he doesn't have to face down the internal specter of a looming war over a major moral issue like slavery, so his tenure can't be as cataclysmically destructive. But like Buchanan, he'll try to subvert American principles all the same.

In short, Obama may not be the worst president in American history. But he's easily the worst American president in modern history -- and we'll have to reassess the case in two and a half years, because there's no sign Obama will change his ways. There is good news, though. All of America's worst presidents served one term, and American recovered. That's because if any of them had served a second, America could have been utterly decimated. Americans had better wake up and place Obama in his proper context by 2012, or it may be too late for recovery.

“Actually, I think Wilson was hands down, the worst, but given time, Obama’s got the potential to surpass him.”

Agreed.

I would hate to see people forget about Wilson (again).

Maybe we should call him “The Worst President of the 20th Century” and Obama “The Worst President of the 21st Century.”

In fact, it could be part of his official title, e.g.,

“Barack Hussein Obama, Worst President of the 21st Century, today addressed the nation from The Hayden Planeterium in New York, assuring the country that he is, indeed, in control of the sun, moon, and stars.”

The ‘jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs’ meme did not say the ‘jobs’ were for Americans any more than it said exactly what those jobs would be.........

Let’s review, shall we?

1) Theft of the US treasury, to hand it over to the IMF, WTO, G20, etc
2) Takeover of auto industry, to hand it over to Chinese crap BYD car makers, segway pod cars, etc
3) Takeover of health care, to kill off the elderly, dissenters, undesirables, etc, and to know instantly who has any bullet wounds
4) Giving away of NASA technologies to moslem countries and leave space to the Russians
5) Crushing US small businesses to give them away to moslem and S Asian entities
6) Drying up California and seizing land for federal ‘monuments’ to give away American agriculture to Latin America and Asian companies
7) Somehow having a ‘convenient’ oil/energy-related accident that then shuts down exploration and drilling, along with shipping oil rig and other, KEY technologies to Soros & cabal in Brazil. Or is is Saudi Arabia? So, America will have its $10/gallon gas and the ‘rates will skyrocket’
8) Pulling Soros plants and high-placed moslem plants in the US government and DoD organizations, so that our enemies always know our next steps...or those of our allies

Now, we wait for:

1) our KEY technology dismantling efforts,
2) the seizing of communications under the ‘SMART-grid’ for ‘our and our children’s safety’ and
3) the attempt to seize weaponry of US citizens.
4) how to ‘deal’ with Israel once a few things like healthcare are ‘taken care of.’

The present administration is a Clear and Present Danger to the sovereignty and survival of the United States of America.

The ‘British’ are already here.

Probably should wait until after he’s finished his term.

Harding's scandals didn't amount to squat, nor did the country suffer for them. U.S. Grant (although he was a good general) greatly eclipsed Harding on both counts.

Harding, like George W. Bush, had all his sins magnified by the left-wing historians to mask the incompetence of his predecessor (Wilson) and a few years after successor (FDR), both of whom make my 10 worst list.

People forget that Herbert Hoover lost re-election for doing exactly the same things which FDR did, but in much smaller doses.

Obama is the most incompetent.

LBJ was worse because he was competent toward destructive ends.

“Is President Obama the Worst President in History?”

No. James Buchanan and Woodrow Wilson were worse.

And at the risk of offending the hordes of Lincoln apologists at FR, I’d add him to the list as well.

Certainly in our lifetime.

And America came to be the leading world power in the 20th Century but Barack has openly set a course to knock us down several pegs (he is not alone in this goal, Madelyn Albright also expressed that it scared her to think of the US as the lone superpower in the world).

So America is teetering on the brink of going downhill. Downhill in economic standing. Downhill in production capacity. Downhill in scientific innovation. Downhill in personal liberty. Downhill in American execptionalism. And downhill in American standard of living.

Can we recover? That is to be seen. But this man is deliberately sending us downhill and for that he can be called the worst.

Carter was worse but Obama is closing the gap.

Well, most of Carter's failings resulted primarily from his incompetence.

Most to all of obama's failings result not only from his incompetence, ignorance (of history, of economics, of human nature, etc), and arrogance, but primarily from his lack of conviction on any issues except for his perceptions that we must become socialists, and that it is just not right for producers to reap the benefits of what they produce. He would have benefitted from a psychology 101 course when he was in college.

Barry has managed to screw-up the country almost as much in two years as Carter was able to do in four. We just haven’t seen the gas lines or the hostages yet.

Most certainly Hilary could not have been any worse. Hands down B.O. takes the prize as worst of all time.

The premise is wrong. Carter is the worst because, at least, Carter was trying to be a President. Obumo has never accepted that he was just a President. He is trying to be a dictator/messiah/god/Santa. . .in all of these he has failed. So, he is definitely the worst dictator, the worst messiah, the worst god, the worst Santa Claus. . . But he couldn’t be the worst President because he would never stoop to such a lowly position as President of the United States.

Carter was horrible, but at the time he was in office he didn't hate America.

Carter was incompetent. BO is malevolent. 'Tis the difference, IMHO.
