Democratic Rep. Bob Ethridge of North Carolina lost his cool on camera in a video that is making the rounds of the conservative blogosphere today.
Ethridge was walking down the street when he was approached by a pair of camera-wielding questioners.
As one asks if Ethridge "fully supports the Obama agenda," a visibly agitated Ethridge asks, "Who are you?" He repeats the question and appears to slam the camera with his hand.
In the edited video, which you can watch above, Ethridge is then shown holding the wrist of one of the questioners and repeatedly asking him to identify himself.
The two people will only identify as students and say they are "just here for a project." In the video, the face of the student in the shot with Ethridge is blurred.
"I have a right to know who you are," the congressman says, holding one man's arm. The pair refuse to tell him where they are from and repeat that "all we are is students."
Ethridge then grabs one of the self-identified students by the neck and pulls him next to him, apparently so that his face will appear on camera.
Ethridge apologized for his actions in a statement Monday.
"I deeply and profoundly regret my reaction and I apologize to all involved," he said. "Throughout my many years of service to the people of North Carolina, I have always tried to treat people from all viewpoints with respect. No matter how intrusive and partisan our politics can become, this does not justify a poor response. I have and I will always work to promote a civil public discourse."
You can see what appear to be the two unedited videos here. In comments on that site and others, commenters are calling on Ethridge to be charged with assault.

Might be closer to 1:00, since it’s DST. (Which would be noon in terms of the sun, but not the clock.)
“What is it called when you grab someone’s personal property out of their hand?”
Democrat Policy?
So you *are* a fan of the late 1930's Germany!
Well, don't you worry your little head about it, sonny, you'll get your police state soon enough! It's just that there is still this pesky right of an unidentified citizen to ask a representative a simple question when in public, without being battered! Don't worry, we'll get right on it though!
Hah,,mine was and engaged in a public brawl.
I guess this doesn’t shock me because of that.
The old man in his seventies was taking out his boat for fishing and there were a couple of teens cursing and acting bad. He told them to stop as ladies were around and they didn’t. He then said he would knock their block off if they didn’t stop and they stopped.
He was old, diabetic, had heart trouble and was unsteady on his feet but somehow he commanded.
I wonder if he went nuts because he thought the guys were interns or pages he had molested in the past and couldnt remember and now they were going to out him...
Oh brother.
OH! LOL okay, I wondered how you went soft on me cuz I always remembered you as one of the good guys. Gotta check your credentials every now and again, though. LOL
That’s aight. You got my back. Keepin’ it real!
Democrat Policy?
SUPERB!
Your nipples, too?
heh heh...sounds a lot like Master Chief Duntno...
Legitimate quoting is not done for individual words. The use of scare quotes is generally done to insinuate that the description is questionable.
Suppose that a congressman and his wife had spent the weekend at a hotel. If the hotel staff (being quoted) said that the congressman and his wife stayed there, would you expect only the word wife to be put in quotes like that? I think it's entirely natural for most people to take a completely different meaning from the following two (almost identical) headlines:
Congressman Jones and his Wife Spend Weekend at the Fairmont.
versus
Congressman Jones and his "Wife" Spend Weekend at the Fairmont.
oh lazz, don’t be such a ninny.
I am all for straightening out whippersnappers confrontting old geezers especially if they are in their cups.
But since he is a dem, I will joint the mob and be shocked and dismayed and outraged.
But inside I am cackling.
All three of them....wait...that can’t be right...what the hell is that?? Um, I gotta go.
lol. That's funny. I'm shocked! Shocked I tell you!
Now Huck,,,that is where we need to go.
Save out true outrage for truly outrageous stuff.
That said, this has shaken me to my core and I am so upset I might have to email Pelosi and beg her to do something about this VERY SCARY man. {cackle, cackle}
It is questionable. His identity has not been confirmed.
I’m not sure I can go to work now. I’m scared. I’m distraught. Emotionally raw. I need to call a lawyer.
Who were these kids?
ANd why were they in suits?
