Controversy has arisen in South Carolina as Alvin M. Greene, an unemployed veteran facing felony charges, has won the states Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate.
Greenes win was improbable, as hes never given a campaign speech, doesnt have a Web site, has no campaign signs and only has $114 in his campaign bank account. Yet, more than 100,000 South Carolinians voted for him.
As a result of his unlikely victory over four-term state legislator Vic Rawl, Greene will face incumbent Sen. Jim DeMint (R) in November.
Im the Democratic Party nominee, Greene, who lives with his 81-year-old ailing father, told The Washington Post. The people have spoken. The people of South Carolina have spoken. The people of South Carolina have spoken. We have to be pro-South Carolina. The people of South Carolina have spoken. We have to be pro-South Carolina.
Greene is also facing felony charges for allegedly showing pornographic images to a female college student last October. Greene shrugged the charges off in an interview with the Post.
It can go away, Greene told the newspaper. Just think about a charge. It can be dropped by the solicitor. It can be dropped and erased like it never happened.
Folks should be given a chance to correct themselves, he said. Somebody could just be trying to get somebody in trouble. You see, somebody, you know -- you just can't work around somebody. It's hard. I'm just trying to talk about something, frankly. I'm just trying to talk from my perspective. People should be friendly. I mean, leave it alone.
However, many in the states Democratic Party smell a rat, and wonder how an unemployed man found $10,400 to register his candidacy by running such a low-budget campaign with no contributions. Some believe Greene was planted by the Republican Party.
There were some real shenanigans going on in the South Carolina primary, House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) told the Bill Press radio show on June 10. I dont know if he was a Republican plant. He was someones plant.
According to The Politico, Clyburn has asked the U.S. Attorneys office in South Carolina to look into both the charges against Greene and the source of his candidacy filing fee. But Greene dismissed the idea of an investigation, and said hes upset with the party, who he claims hasnt given him any support for his campaign.
From day one, they just didn't have confidence in my campaign, he told Fox News.
The South Carolina Board of Elections said it had no plans to investigate the legitimacy of Greenes candidacy, but the states Democratic Party wants him off of the ballot because of his felony charges.
>> By definition are not all politicians unemployed.
No, they’re in the “sex trade”. They earn their dough by screwing the populus.
Against Demint...not likely
Bob Kelleher ran for many offices in his 80 some odd years (emphasis on odd) he was a liberal candidate, a libertarian, he ran as a green party candidate and somehow he became our GOP candidate in 2008 to run against Max "Obamacare" Baucus.
The guy is a kook ( http://www.bobkelleher2008.com/ ) and wanted to change our government to a European style Parliament --- was he planted or were we victims of a reverse form of "Operation Chaos"?
Who knows, but in case anyone has forgotten the point that the dems only needed one more senator for the majority and he won the GOP primary in 2008 and the rest is history so South Carolina dems needs to get over it and just support their guy.
Alaska had a guy named Vic Vickers in 2008. Moved up from Florida in January, where he had been a lifelong registered democrat, and registered here as a republican. Declarers in the republican primary and proceeds to run months of attack ads against Ted Stevens worth millions, supposedly all funded by his personal fortune. Loses the primary and immediately disappears from public view. Lots of folks, myself included, are pretty certain Vickers was a dem plant.
I suspect very little of the girl's tale is true.
He used to be Florida Deputy Comptroller. Obviously he stole the money from Florida.
Yeah, he's hoping for a job, even an embarrassingly pitiful job as a U.S. Senator.
Perhaps he wants to be the next Barack Obama.
Yeah, Democrats voted for him alphabetically.....
“African-American” or “black” comes before “white” in the alphabet.
Yes,
But he is a black man.
And he has a nice smile.
Same qualifications as the “Magic Negro”.
Too bad there’s the porn charge. This actually otherwise could be an interesting story of a regular guy getting a once-in-a-lifetime shot at a Senate seat. He’s up against DeMint so he’s not going to win, but there’s still a human interest element to it.
He was Wateree Community Actions plant.
Its questionable if anyone even knew he was black. But if they did, that was certainly part of his win.
Hell, if Clyburn himself knew nothing of the two candidates, but knew Greene was black and Rawl was white, I guarantee you he would have voted for Greene.
I find the GOP plant story hard to believe. (A) Jim DeMint is strong, principled and popular - no need to play dirty games here. (B) Even if the SC GOP were stupid enough to do this, SOMEONE would have leaked by now out of conscience.
Doesn’t pass the sniff test. It does pass the ACORN test, though.
Clyburn is telling that he has knowledge of the tactic of using a “plant” in an election.
Just cause theyre dead doesnt mean theyve forgotten how the alphabet goes..
:)
