Dude, I hope you’ve sent this family some money to pursue their “dreams”, because if you haven’t , you’re nothing but a troll.
Balloon boy and his family were all about fraud and lies, and then continued to lie days after the hoax...How do you possibly compare these two events?
Write ‘em a check schmuck.

This family is counting on schmucks like you. DON’T DISAPPOINT THEM... Write ‘em a check
Face it...you have egg on your face....you’ve been duped into thinking this was about anything other than a family of attention whores looking to make a buck off their kids.
All that rage at fellow freepers for nothing...
What about NASCAR?
What about those that rescue those attention seeking drivers in dangerous fiery accidents? What about the fans needlessly injured in racing accidents when 200 mph attention seeking vehicles go out of control?
How about the Mercy-air helicopters used to transport those attention seeking drivers to hospitals when some Veteran or cancer victim might need it?
Should everyone stop taking needless chances?
lol....You people are hysterical....
Verboten by who?
Regardless, it was a French fishing boat that rescued her. They were under no obligation, other than the obligation of the good samaritan, to rescue her either. Just as nobody is obligated to stop and provide aid to victims in a car accident.
I'm glad that they did, of course, just as I'm glad that she was able to embark on this venture without the statists and control freaks forbidding the act. She is a better sailor than 99.999% of the population - probably much more. If she and her family decided that she was ready for this venture, then she was ready.
And her age is not an issue. Some are ready at 14, some at 21, some (mostly democrats, but apparently not all) are never ready. There's no magic bird of intelligence that drops its load on people when they turn 18 or 21.
I don't understand why so many here on FREE Republic are against freedom. Apparently, Jimrob chose the wrong name for the web site. Whoda thunk....
Not me slick. They never asked me for a dime.
“lol....You people are hysterical....”
Beats being a sucker....
You arent looking to buy any land are you?
Go dive in on this thread bud:

What about air show?
Should we also ban airshows?
So what?
The family put their daughter in danger for a TV show deal...

The whole thing is a publicity stunt that went wrong.
Should attention seeking air shows and NASCAR be banned?
I agree 100%. The world needs more people with guts and sense of adventure, rather than turning us all into lazy wusses who have to let some government decide what we can or cannot do.
Reasonable people can see that this family’s endeavors and those examples you listed can’t be compared.
According to the head of Australia’s Maritime Authority it was their OBLIGATION.
Obviously you do not spend much time on the water.
I agree it’s about freedom. But I think we’d all agree that freedom also carries with it responsibility.
Was this the responsible thing to do for this particular girl, at this particular time? Most experienced sailors think not.
