A French fishing vessel rescued a California teenager Saturday from her crippled sailboat in the turbulent southern Indian Ocean, bringing relief to her family but ending her around-the-world sailing effort.

She started sailing boats at age 6 months? Is that some sort of a record? Also, what is the source for this information?
The Captain didn't fall overboard fishing. Your response had little to do with what I posted. It took 3 boats 2 days to get to her. Just because she WANTED to circumnavigate the oceans. Just so she could say "I DID IT".
The risk was not significantly greater than what it would be while they were making their living.
Other than being 2 days out of their way.
If anything they should be compensated for lost time.
They won't be.
I’m not jealous of foolish children that risk others lives. This was an ego trip. She wanted to beat her brothers record. How noble! /s
Wow, she had sixteen years experience living on and around the water.
How irresponsible it must have been for the US Navy to send me out to sea with just six months of Boot Camp and "A" School.
Do you criticize liberals because of envy? Or because you think they're stupid?
Looks like you were better prepared for the seas with 6 months of boot camp than Abby was with sixteen years of “sailing experience”.
And you must be wearing one of those saggy diapers that leak.
Yeah well let me tell ya when I was a kid we were so poor our sailing yacht didn't have an ice cream soft serve machine on board like the other poor families in my neighborhood, but we still made out OK...
Good times...
God bless you, too.
LOL
My Great Grandmother had fourteen live births and total of 21 pregnancies. What do you have against large families? Better yet, why is it anyone’s business that this couple is expecting their 8th child? This does not make them like OctoMom in any way shape or form.
FR use to be a place where I could read wonderful comments from true American spirits and patriots. Posts on this subject today make it difficult to see FR as any different than HuffPost.
Yup, well said.
I don’t have anything against large families these days as long as Mom and Dad are able to support them financially and I don’t have to pay for their support.
And the jury is out on whether the Sunderlands are Octomom or not.
Look in the mirror. Those who condemn this family for raising talented self reliant young adults are the true schmucks.
The Sunderland kids are very far from being self-reliant.
Sadly, FR has its own collection of statists. They are really coming out on this issue.
well put.
LOL!!
Now we have Godly values defined as sending your 16 yr old girl out into the Indian Ocean around the world.
Give it a break! Jesus was able to calm the storms, not this girl!
Whoa...
All you people who don't want to restrict your children's dreams: if your children's dreams need sponsorships which cause you to undermine your child's safety, you are BAD PARENTS. PERIOD. Money should not trump your child's safety.
This young woman could have done this over 18 however it would have been financed. If it was her dream, it was her dream. To "be the youngest" anything pretty much means you are about celebrity, which means you are immature, and which means you need PARENTS to teach you that dreams about being famous can wait until 18, because fame is not a kind mistress.
