(AP) RENO, Nev. (AP) - The Republican mayor of Reno says the U.S. Senate candidate chosen this week by the Nevada GOP to take on Democrat Harry Reid is an "ultra right-winger" whom he cannot support.

Mayor Bob Cashell says former state Assemblywoman Sharron Angle is "just too far to the right for me."

Looks like Reno needs a new mayor. I hope to retire there in a few years. I will remember.

Were mayoral primaries held last Tuesday as well? If so, could someone still file as an independent? I believe that Washoe County State Senator Maurice Washington’s seat is up this year and that he is term-limited, so I assume that he will be returning to the private sector fulltime unless we can convince him to run for mayor of Reno.

Apparently, there was a primary election on Tuesday where the top two vote-getters go on to a general, but it slipped under my radar. Cashell will face one Chad Dehne, son of a Democrat Congressional candidate Sam Dehne from the same district.

Cashell is just sucking up to Reid because, IIRC, Reid proposed that speed rail service from Orlando to Reno and I believe it might be part of the package in the bill to start new government projects and create jobs. Reid proposed it last year, and then we heard little about it. I wonder what the status is with that. Of course, a speed RR from Orlando to Reno is just what we need NOT!! When few Americans can now afford to vacation at either place what is the use?
