The UK Is Now Freaking Out About The U.S. Reaction To BP

The UK is freaking out right now about the U.S. reaction to the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

Major Conservative political leader and Mayor of London Boris Johnson has called President Barack Obama's language "anti-British" after the President called BP 'British Petroleum' rather than its modern name.

Conservative Lord Tebbit's quote is just too vitriolic to paraphrase.

From The Daily Mail:

"The whole might of American wealth and technology is displayed as utterly unable to deal with the disastrous spill - so what more natural than a crude, bigoted, xenophobic display of partisan political Presidential petulance against a multinational company," said Lord Tebbit.

Much of the furor over the fallout from the BP spill in the UK stems from the potential damage to the company's dividends, which are linked to many pensions in the country.

Now UK Prime Minister David Cameron is going to speak personally to U.S. President Barack Obama over the issue, in an effort to calm the tensions between the two countries.

But the UK's Spectator blog doesn't think Cameron has a chance of stopping Obama on his warpath, as the U.S. president has no choice but to attack with his poll numbers sagging.

I think the standard line is “if we wanted to get crapped on repeatedly, we’d go make German porn.”

Somewhat amused at the anti-brit sentiments in this discussion. My deceased father’s third wife was a nasty piece of work from England, but I don’t blame all of Britain for her.

The one thing that might cause me to still hold a grudge toward the British?

The treatment of Scotland, and the Highland Clearances. My grandfather’s parents were “cleared”. What England did was as bad as what the Palestinians have been doing to Israel, considering the technology of the time.

But, to be fair, those English who engaged in such atrocities are long dead. Only their great-grandchildren are now living. But, one does wonder what happens when generational memory fades away.

Will history rhyme again?

"Fact is nobody wins if the U.S. government destroys BP. Its a cash cow and that ability will be needed to make as many whole as possible. Driving them out of business does far more harm than good."

Those who hate modern, high energy, civilization win. If the goal is to take the anglosphere down a notch, restrict energy supplies, impose more government controls on scare resources, and generally limit freedom and dictate every aspect of life, you will be a winner. Does Obama have those as goals?

I stand by it, it’s hard to name a government more hostile to Americas values and Geopolitical goals than England.

All countries have their differences now and again, but are you really seriously suggesting that England is more hostile to America's values and geopolitical goals than, oh, off the top of my head - Iran, pre-gulf war Iraq, North Korea, Vietnam, Ethiopia, France, Venezuela, Cuba, Red China, Indonesia, Mexico, Yemen, Libya, Syria, Albania, Mauritania, Saudi Arabia and Cambodia??

Cos if you honestly believe that the US has more in common with any of them than it does with England, there really is very little point in arguing with you.

Let them form protests. It seems like the “in” thing to do here. As one eloquent friend put it... naked protestors are not going to fix this problem. Engineers are. Engineers wearing clothing. You do not want to see an Engineer naked.

I don’t believe that for one minute. There is over 300 million dollars worth of oil floating around out there. That is not acceptable to ANY company.

Yes, but the point is that it has changed in reality. BP was the name taken when British Petroleum merged with Amoco. It is a multinational company now. The UK government does not own any part of it, and Brit pensioners only have a stake in it because of the British Petroleum connection.

Ha...SPEAK TO HIM....Speak....Chicago thug 0bambi only understands brute force...

Cameron should promptly NATIONALIZE BP as a "British Resource," reinstate the dividend and send his HMS Navy to fend off any miscreants,...

give 0bambi and his boys a good tweak.

I’m a Brit, I’m not and I never was. In fact I have made dozens of posts then and now expressing my deep sorrow for Americans enduring the disaster that is his presidency.

So in summary be careful before you besmirch us all....
