TORONTO - There’s 1,625 kilos of ammonium nitrate out there and police preparing for the G20 summit don’t know where it is.
Police sources confirm a man purchased 65 of the 25-kilo bags of the fertilizer on May 26 from the Vineland Growers shop in Lincoln, in southern Ontario.
In alerts issued to police throughout Ontario, the quantity is described as being capable of making a “Timothy McVeigh” bomb.
McVeigh made an improvised explosive with 1,815 kilos of ammonium nitrate and fuel oil packed inside a rental truck. The April 19, 1995, blast killed 168 people and destroyed the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City.
Police here are concerned because the fertilizer was purchased just a month before the G20 conference is to begin at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
Niagara Regional Police issued a public alert asking for help in finding the man who bought the fertilizer.
Police said the man gave the impression to staff at the store that he was a regular customer or was representing a regular customer, but “upon further review, this was determined no to be the case.”
The man is missing two fingers on the right hand, police said.
A source said the loss of fingers could be from an industrial accident, it’s also common among people who experiment with explosives and had botched a blast.
The 2008 Explosives Act, passed after the 2006 arrests of the Toronto 18, requires that sales of ammonium nitrate be recorded. Purchasers are to provide identification if buying the material.

You would think by now that the G20 would find some venues that are isolated from city centers where the freaks can operate easily. They hold them in big liberal cities. I guess they really want demonstrations...so they can demonstrate the evils of capitalism.
Gitmo would be a great place to hold them. Any demonstators would have a nice lock up and they could be held indefinitely.

I purchased a ton of the stuff one year when living in TX.
It was for the coastal bermuda I was trying to grow.
Usually it is purchased in a hopper trailer and hauled away
by the buyer. After spreading the hopper is returned.
No one asked me for ID. They did want to be paid though ;-)
I worked in the lumber industry for 40 years or so and missing fingers were quite common among the workers, especially those that had begun working back in the late 30s and 40s. Missing fingers would be from anything. I would think a bad bomb would mean more than a few fingers gone.

The 1947 Texas City Explosion was caused when the SS Grandcamp, carrying a full load of fertilizer exploded.
It's almost impossible to regulate chemicals so that someone cannot make an improvised WMD. Just grab ammonia and bleach and you have mustard gas. Mix swimming pool chlorine and brake fluid will create a fire bomb and you can create free chlorine gas just by dumping a quart of water into a five gallon bucket of granulated swimming pool chlorine.
