Former presidential candidate McCain battling for his political life against GOP conservative

A serious re-election fight wasn't what Republican John McCain expected when he returned to the Senate after losing the presidency.

But the four-term senator is battling for his political life in a race that embodies the volatility of an unpredictable election year. He's facing former Rep. J.D. Hayworth, a fellow Republican pushing him farther to the right as GOP voters demand conservative purity in their candidates and punish those with ties to the Washington establishment.

Two longtime Senate incumbents have fallen —

So John wants to continue in Congress even after his death????

How these old farts get in their heads that the world will fall apart if they are out of office is a mental disease. Robert Bird has been dead for sometime now but they still wheel him into the chamber now and then.

That is going to hurt the NRA badly! Our household has one Life Member and one Benefactor Member who will no longer give them a cent. All gun support money will now go to GOA and Second Amendment Foundation.

I just hope that ill-advised and destructive NRA endorsement doesn’t hurt JD and therefore Arizona and America.

McCain - the quintessential politician! Absolutely no core values, a strong desire for power, arrogant, a disdain for the voting population and a high regard for the ruling elite.

Yeah, ole' Juan is running to the right for his life. Problem is, if he's reelected (I pray not) he'll morph right back to his real identity, a leftist RINO.

JD bump!

Davis has the same gay rumors that follow Obama. I'm not surprised that he lost.

People here either know what a snake McCain is, or they don't. He has spent and spent and spent on this campaign, but he is still well known as a betraying old hack. People are sick of his ads and sick of him. He's done everything but get down like a dog and beg.

People are angry. And this thing is still a couple of months out. Good luck, J.D.

The sentiment around here is very much, “Get him the hell out!”.

IMO, voters are mad as hell at the way Obama is ruining the country and at least in MY case, think that McCain ran a very poor campaign against him.

If McCain wins again, he will immediately show his true colors by throwing Arizona to the illegal wolves and joining his good liberal buddies in the "comity of the Senate".

I think you can see how worried the RINOs are by those who are lining up with McCain...Kyl, who is a big disappointment to me, Romney and even Governor Brewer who even now I am reconsidering when I was firmly in her corner before.

Go JD!

In 2008 I had octogenarians telling me McCain was "too old." he is. Half senile. He was completely hornswoggled by the September financial fiasco.

He should have the decency to go quietly into retirement. Let them name a water treatment plant after him and be done with it.

BINGO! McCain will revert to his old treachery if he wins. If possible, people can send JD some money.

I send what I can to >conservative< candidates all around the country. It might be only $5 or $10, but it adds up.

Not a penny to the RNC, RNCC, etc.

Anyone who would call a score of incarnate devils “my good friends” needs to be kick into the sewer.

Every time I hear McCain say “my friends”, I could vomit.

It portrays McCain as a reasonable candidate being challenged by a raving fanatic, which is common for the MSM.

You’re absolutely right. And I don’t understand if all those admirers had heat stroke out there (in the hottest part of AZ) or what, they might as well whip out the campaign handbook with the propaganda they are spreading.

McCain, among other serious and horrible things, is responsible for our towns being ravaged by illegal aliens. I don’t know which part of that his “fans” don’t get.

and right here is the problem we have in this race and what most of us were concerned about... and McCain used his AZ clout to keep us from having a closed election..... he knows it helped him in New Hampshire and it will help him in Arizona

Bob Armogeva is a lifelong Democrat who plans to vote in the GOP primary — and told McCain so: "I'm not voting for any incumbent except for you." After McCain thanked him, he explained: "He has done so much for Arizona. He's a fair-minded person — even if he is a Republican."

If Hayworth really had the support of Arizona Republicans, he would have millions to spend just like John McCain. You can try to twist it all you want, but the fact is most Republicans support McCain.
