I believe that he will be segregated from the other prisoners; Peru cannot help but realize that this 23 year old psychopath is an infamous international celebrity AND they will NOT want to have him beaten to death by common street criminals & murderers & druggies.
That's my prediction. . . . that he will last his entire sentence and he WILL die in prison, but from natural causes due to old age and not from the notorious conditions or notorious occupations of Peru's prisons.

I didn't realize that they had gone to his room at 5 a.m. For some reason, I thought it had been earlier. Sometime within that 3 hour and 40 minute window, he killed her.
He may end up attempting suicide unless they've already got him on suicide watch, and have put him in a stripped cell.

I posted earlier on this thread...there was some pundit interviewed on tv who said that the wheels of justice in Peru turn very slowly...that JVDS won’t be tried for at least two years, maybe longer. I don’t believe there is such a thing as bail; in fact, this expert said that Peru will not allow the U.S. to take him on those extortion charges first because the Peruvian authorities don’t trust that he will be back for trial on the murder charges. I don’t know whether the jails have isolation or segregation. In many countries, they don’t have special accommodations. Commit a crime and you’re thrown in with the other dregs of society. A minimum of two years in jail in Peru should wipe that smirk off pretty boy’s face in a hurry.
post 595 here in the ongoing extended discussion thread; it’s something I found at Websleuths, and it’s something I remember from the first week of June/2005 during the NH-Disappearance, because I was just so weirded out that NOBODY except online posters seemed even remotedly concerned about him beating his own dog to death.

Drugs seems a likely reason. She does seem totally conscious in the video, not disoriented or drugged atv all. The forensics will tell us a lot.
