Exclusive: Are the Turks Preparing for War Against Israel?

A statement from the Turkish government promises “unprecedented and incalculable reprisals” against Israel for the Israeli Navy’s seizure of the Marmora, a Turkish vessel, which was leading a fleet of ships through the Gaza blockade over the weekend. The statement has received the support of Hezbollah, an arm of the Iranian government, and Hamas, the Palestinian network.

Such measures will not be confined to diplomatic censure.

Reports from Ankara, the capital of Turkey, state that the government, which remains under the control of the Justice and Democratic Party (Adalet ve Kalkinma, AKP), is planning to continue pounding the Israeli blockade with more flotillas that will be escorted by Turkish warships and fighter jets.

Israel merchant vessels moored outside Ashdodport have been instructed to sail into port and take shelter in case of missile attacks from the Gaza Strip against Ashdod and Ashkelon.

In expectation of an outbreak of war, the Turkish chief of staff Gen. Ilker Basbug has been recalled to Ankara from a visit to Egypt. Greece has since halted its joint exercise with Israel in protest against the naval action.

Israeli warplanes have headed west over the Mediterranean on Monday morning in support of the still ongoing Israeli commando operation aboard the Turkish Marmora, the scene of violent clashes between Israeli troops and the 600 “peace activists,” some of them armed.

The Turkish government, under Prime Minister Recep Erdogan, reported 15 dead aboard the vessel. Israeli army spokesman, Col. Avi Beneyahu, called the incident “an act of terror on the high seas.”

Far from being a humanitarian mission, according to Col. Beneyahu, the flotilla was sponsored personally by the Turkish government to break the Israeli blockade on Gaza and permit arms supplies and terrorist to reach the Gaza Strip in an unrestricted manner.

The Israeli army spokesman said that the Turks aimed at provoking a widely publicized international incident with fatalities in order to show Israel using strong-arm tactics against unarmed peaceniks.

He further maintained that the Turkish government refused to heed warnings that the vessels would be prevented from entering Gaza Port and rejected Israeli offers to ferry their aid cargo overland to the Gaza Strip.

An estimated 19 activists were killed battling with Israeli troops, and dozens more were injured. Ten Israeli soldiers were wounded, two critically.

According to the Israelis, passengers, armed with knives and iron bars, mobbed the Israeli commandos as soon as they landed on the deck of the Marmara. One passenger allegedly snatched from a sidearm from an Israeli soldier and proceeded to fire at the commandos.

In the midst of mounting tensions, the Arab League Council has called for an emergency meeting today to demand Egypt to end its joint embargo with Israel on Gaza.

Egypt will face pressure to end its joint embargo on Gaza with Israel at the Arab League Council meeting urgently Tuesday, June 1st. Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas demanded the session.

Demonstrations against Israel continue to rage in Syria, Iran, Turkey, Jordan, and Greece.

“One outcome could indeed be another coup by the Turkish military to restore secular rule.”

Ding ding ding,,, we have a winner.

I can't help but wonder if Turkey is looking to challenge Iran by bringing back the "Ottoman Empire," as the leader of the muslim caliphate. Iran will have nukes, but Turkey may be trying to gain a following by demonizing Israel.

sounds like they are swinging towards the Islamic orbit (as there soon won’t likely be an EU for them to worry about joining)

Hmmmm,,, interesting take. Because all Turkey really has to do is stand by and watch as the Iranians and Israelis duke it out.

Turkey really isn’t involved here and is sorta forcing it’s way in. Also, anyone have any ideas as to whether or not Turkey is anything like Greece financially? States with crappy financial situations often look to the warpath for a solution.

Anyone happen to know if Turkey is as financially precarious as the European ‘pigs’, (i.e. portugal, italy, greece, spain)?

Ezekiel used the word that widely meant the modern territory of “Russia” and “Turkey” in those days? That should be a simple matter of translation. Like calling France “Gaul” or some such,,, that basically your opinion??

Oh no, it's not my opinion. I get my information from people who spend their lives studying eschatology:

Ezekiel 38 & 39 (Part 2)

Ezekiel 38 & 39 (Part 3)

Ezekiel 38 & 39 (Part 4)

Ezekiel 38 & 39 (Part 5)

Now I'd be happy to hear exactly why these scholars are incorrect.

If you like to waste time with people who play games with words, that is your time, but it all sounds pretty delusional to me. What about the Scythians, who were the actual people (not Slavic at all) who lived in southern Russia/Ukraine 3,000 years ago?

I think the Hebrew word "Rosh" means the Hebrew word "Rosh", which in turn means "head", as in Rosh Hashanah (Happy New Year).

Not to mention that the Russians have been at war against Muslim invaders for over 1,000 years (hint: the Mongols were Muslim after converting in 1260) and anyone who thinks Russia would have a civilizational alliance with the Muslims is proving that he or she literally knows nothing of Russian history.

"The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all

Read that section carefully. A response is only triggered if Turkey is attacked on its own soil. If Turkey sends a flotilla into Israeli territorial waters and it's sunk, Turkey is on its own.

An argument could be made that Turkey would be on its own even if it was attacked on its own soil, if that attack was a response to Turkish-initiated aggression.

I don't think the Turkish military is keen on getting into an armed showdown with Israel on Israel's own turf, regardless of what the politicians say.

The implication of your post is that Israelis should not have fought to defend themselves when taking over the ship. I am NOT asking why you were suspended from FR the other day; it's pretty clear.

Did you read the links in posts 47 and 49?

You'll have to argue with the people who studied this and came to the conclusions they did about the origins of the nations listed in Ezekiel 38.

I really don't care about Russian history- I just care about Russia to the extent that they are in the process of doing just what God said they would and to the extent that they are stupidly walking into an extermination, courtesy of the God of Israel.

Other than that, I couldn't care less about Russian history.

Well, if you check, I'm still banned.

Bummer, that. Downright bloody inconvenient.

Yeah, and if you read further Russia and the rest get their rear ends kicked. They will be buried in the valley of Hamon Gog. There will be Israeli crews hired to go around and flag where bones are to they can be buried in that valley, and it will take Israel seven years to do the clean up of the mess of bodies left from the failed attempt to destroy Israel.

Not smart to mess with the "Apple of God's eye". I plan on popping some popcorn and watching the show if that is what is about to happen.

Exactly.

Israel will win both the imminent Psalm 83 war and the Ezekiel 38 and 39 war.

To go to war against Israel is to go to war against God- and only a suicidal fool starts a war with God.

I find it VERY interesting how the quote you provided here ties in so smoothly with Zechariah 12....

12:2 "I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that sends all the surrounding peoples reeling. Judah will be besieged as well as Jerusalem.
3 On that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves.
4 On that day I will strike every horse with panic and its rider with madness," declares the LORD. "I will keep a watchful eye over the house of Judah, but I will blind all the horses of the nations.
Note the use of the term "on that day" in BOTH sets of verses. I truly believe that day is nigh upon us.

Note Zechariah's statement that "ALL the nations of the Earth are gathered against Jerusalem"--I didn't think that would EVER include the United States of America yet look what we have done. ***sigh***

I do not want to see my nation, the land I love, be an enemy of God but it looks that way. We all need to pray to GOD to deliver us from this EVIL that is Obama! He sides with the Prince of Darkness. He imperils us who sides against Israel.*

The Middle East is a time bomb ready to explode and the issue of peace and safety along with the Gaza problem will no doubt start the fuse.

And the The Won, who sits in the Oval Office, is on the wrong side, he's on the side that calls Israel only the "Little Satan". They call the US, "The Great Satan".

Don’t be so happy about it. Obama is taking us down the road where we too are counted as those nations AGAINST Israel.
