I'd sure like to know the reason they wouldn't use one of these bad boys to at least TRY and remove the nuts and bolts holding the flanges together. You would then have a nice clean flange in which to bolt a shutoff valve to. Unless of course they're not confident that this damaged BOP could withstand the pressure that would result if the flow was allowed to stop. Photobucket

They have already said they now for a fact the Well casing is damaged below ground, and they are 75% sure the well head is damaged also. If they stop the flow completely without cementing it they will have an even worse blow out than they already have.

THey have been cutting on it all day since the chomp, trying to get it to a point where the cap can slide over it and seal.

It looks like the LMRP (the white portion of the stack) is sitting much more vertical than it was when the riser was pulling on it too. Would love to see fumbles take a look at that bubble level now!

I’m somewhat surprised because I expected to see a much greater flow when they got all the other crap out of the way.

Is there a restriction caused by the drill rod inside pipe?

The well seems to be running out of steam. Maybe one of the BOP valves is beginning to seat.

According to what everyone is saying, that might be the worst of all outcomes now.
The consensus is that if it gets stopped, it will blow big time.
