WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama's top energy adviser says the Gulf oil spill is probably the biggest environmental disaster the country has ever faced. And she says the government is responding with what she calls its largest environmental response ever.
Already it's been called the biggest oil spill in U.S. history.
Browner says more oil is leaking into the Gulf of Mexico than from any previous U.S. oil spillincluding the Exxon Valdez spill off the coast of Alaska in 1989.
Government estimates say that between 18 million and 40 million gallons have been dumped into the Gulf.
Browner spoke on NBC's "Meet the Press."

They don’t have any idea how many gallons of the SLC have leaked just like they don’t know really how many illegals are in this country.
We need a bigger capture plan....
Hmm. If this is the biggest US environmental disaster ever, and Obama has said he’s been in charge of it since day 1, and that ultimately the responsibility is his,
then isn’t it fair to say that not only has he really screwed up big time if he has been in charge since day 1, and that it’s his ass (buck stops here) that’s failed to get this under control?
And that maybe taking two vacations while this worst eco-disaster in US history occurs, maybe is extremely poor judgment on his part and that maybe he better get his ass back to work fixing this?
We need a bigger VACATION plan
I’m 67 so I’ve been voting for years. This is the first time I can remember a President who “Doesn’t give a damn”
Actually, it is the biggest oil spill ever but it is not YET the biggest environmental disaster ever. Once it hits the beaches full force, then it will be.
Greatest President of all time!~/sarc
If drilling had been done closer to land, this could have been fixed immediately.
Who can we really put the blame on?
Not his country
Not his money
He couldn't care less.
When he loses in 2012, he will go to work for the UN where he belongs.
The guy knows nothing about America, American People or American History. He has no pride in America. The only thing I have seen him express pride in, is his Islamic roots and his extremely extreme Leftist plans for fundamentally changing America.
I don't think he wanted this to happen. But I think he really doesn't care one way or the other.
All this stuff that he is doing is like a high-school project to him. If it works, great. If it doesn't, oh well.
He is not vested in America.
Great....and we have a bunch of incompetents in power.....maybe there IS a reason....
Watching the History Channel’s *The Crumbling of America* re; our infrastructure - dams, levees, roads, bridges, power grids; most of which were created 50+ years ago.
There are problems which need planning and preparation now, illustrating why we should replace all the doddering old fools in Congress with young, forward-looking minds.
We have been so blessed and lucky for so long - it may be enlightening to have such an incompetent in the WH. We are finally looking at the big pictures, past - present - and future.
God give us guidance.
I wonder if he can blame it on George Washington?
I'm a huge fan of burning coal, too!!! Burn baby, burn!!!
bttt
Did y’all see the footage of him on the beach picking up the sludge? What he did next.... says it all. Did he put it in a bucket or hand it off to someone to be disposed of properly...NO. He THREW IT BACK DOWN ON THE BEACH!!!!!!!!!
The only thing he cares about his himself and destroying America as we know it.
Cali is protecting their minnows instead of irrigating their crops because of environmentalists. Where are these same @ssclowns when it comes to the Obama administrations lack of proper response to the horrific BP spill. How much of the wildlife will be wiped out because of their ignorance?
This is the time that California growers should go at the administration FULL FORCE over the “hostage” water situation. The environmentalists “should” have their hands full and be preoccupied with BP.
