Your knee-jerk brand of conservatism is sad. There are such things as dire emergencies, times when people matter more than political principles.
I suppose eminent domain doesn’t matter anymore after Kelo. If it still did, they should pay for renting the boats instead of BP (British Petroleum). FWIW, I have been shocked by the hysteria over the oil spill. NOT necessarily here on FR (since I havent read as much about it here), but on another website I frequent people who I thought were conservative, are acting like Greenpeace nuts. I guess everyone has their exceptions.
So let’s say your house is beside mine, and is burning to the ground. You are sitting in your lawn chair telling me how it’s not that bad, and you have a water hose in your yard not in use, do I stand by and take action or let my house catch fire as well. It is really bad, and is a lot worse then theyre letting on. Both BP and the government have been negligent and need to be held accountable. This will ruin many more people’s lives if something is not done, and those in charge have already demonstrated negligence and incompetence.
“....Far better than if they sat back did nothing and then asked the gov to support them for the next 5 or 10 years.”
5 or 10 years, and beyond is the Obama Socialist goal IMO.
Everybody looking to a Centralized, Socialist Government for everything is the goal of the current regime.
It’s about time they took the responsibility for their shore into their own hands.
A Landrieu is Mayor of New Orleans
BP is an international corporation that could care less about its foulness. It is intricately connected to the corrupt Beltway politicians. It donated millions to the Mobama campaign and supports all kinds of looney socialist programs/charities.
Bravo to the citizens of Louisiana.
Excellent post! People need to realize that many corporates like BP are not necessarilly allies of conservatives.
Except you know d*mn good and well they are not going to do anything other than go for a boat ride.
Good post!
WHY were they idle?
What were they supposed to be doing?
Why were they seized for being idle?
Where are the boats going now and how will they be used?
Just curious - just exactly what will Jefferson Parish officials do to stop the oil coming in with these boats?
If this is the case then BP should not object to Jefferson Parish officials borrowing them
Several days ago, I read that BP was trying to get these fishermen to sign a contract which waives their right to sue BP for loss of their livelihood and limits their payment for losses from BP to $5000, before being hired for the clean-up. Can anyone here verify this?
I’d like to weigh in on your comment.
I am a conservative, but I have been VERY upset by this spill. I DO consider it to be a HUGE problem and as more and more oil hits the beaches, it is becoming clear there is NO PLAN AND NO LEADERSHIP by BP or the FED govt and NO END in sight.
I love the idea of local governments and citizens taking charge and doing the job themselves. Take lots of photos and videos, especially when the FEDs try to stop you from dredging or cleaning up anything.
BP may own the destroyed rig, but they don’t own the ocean or shoreline. They are committing willful and negligent destruction of property by permitting this leak to continue rather than risk loss of income by simply sealing it up.
Please advise us what you know and how this would be accomplished.
If BP is not big enough to either contain the damage of handle the cleanup, then it shouldn’t have the right to drill. It’s apparently too incompetent to take the mitigating actions its approval request document stated it would.
that is one gerrymandered parish for Jefferson to reach down there
it outta be LaFourche
do you have any links?
what sort of oil?
tar or surface sheen?
