Arizona Official Threatens to Cut Off Los Angeles Power as Payback for Boycott
FoxNews.com ^ | 5/19/2010

If Los Angeles wants to boycott Arizona, it had better get used to reading by candlelight.

That's the message from a member of Arizona's top government utilities agency, who threw down the gauntlet Tuesday in a letter to Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa by threatening to cut off the city's power supply as retribution.

Gary Pierce, a commissioner on the Arizona Corporation Commission, wrote the letter in response to the Los Angeles City Council's decision last week to boycott the Grand Canyon State -- in protest of its immigration law -- by suspending official travel there and ending future contracts with state businesses.

“I think 3-6pm would be even better. Let them all sit in traffic until midnight a few times.”

Remembering the traffic there that made me giggle.

>>>Are we going to not have FR?

Our Achille’s heel?<<<

If you live in LA, I suggest you buy a generator (from a company in Arizona, of course) and burn lots of fossil fuels (preferably from off shore drilling) to keep your computer and FR up and running. :-)

Agreed!

As the summer approaches, I think AZ should make a statement that 'due to excessive demand on our electrical grid' (read: too many illegals using electricity) we will need to conserve power via brown outs. ;)

I like the idea but I think Obama and the Commies (Democrats) want this.

This would give Bambie the excuse to send in his thugs, FBI and such, and take over. When the real citizens in Arizona say or do anything he will use this as an excuse to impose Marshal Law there and try to suspend the November elections.

I have never been a conspiracy theorist but I know how Communists work and I think the Dems are trying to get any excuse to remain in power by any means.

Since 9-11 there are way too many over paid, armed, Government workers, many who are being trained at Quantico to perform military style operations. I see them where I live all the time and they refuse to say who they work for or why they train in military-style uniforms.

I live in the L.A. area and all I can say is "Go Zonies!"

The liberal fools who now run L.A. preside over a multiracial spoils system: so much for the Blacks, so much for the Hispanics, more for business-obstructing Greens and public employee unions, screw the fools who are still stupid enough to work and pay taxes, etc. Nothing would please me more than to see that arrogant bunch slapped upside their heads.

“Wonder how all the illegals in LA would respond to a big power outage there.....(sorry can’t stop laughing)...”

They’ll do what they always do, fire up their habachis indoor for heat, cooking, and death by carbon monoxide poisoning.

I have no problem using my flashlight and Coleman lantern to watch Pierce kick Villar and the City Council’s stupid butts. Cut power any time you like, Gary.

I suppose Fresno, CA is far enough away from LA that if the whole state power grid and network servers go down, FR could be unaffected.

I’m not worried about my computer.

They should do it, just for an hour. Let them see what it’s like. Do it around 6 PM.

If AZ cuts off the power outright, the news will be full of pictures of old folks and babies dead from the heat (regardless of the real cause, the message will be it’s AZ’s fault). I think just raising rates (to compensate for the economic damage from boycotts against AZ) is smarter, both fiscally and politically.

I know Gary Pierce, and he’s a good guy...He’s also running for reelection this year (he’ll be at my Republican club next month). This is getting fun!!!

When you see him, tell him to do it; just shut the power off for one hour for maintenance, and let the liberals in LA get a taste of what could come. Please, a lot of people here would appreciate the word on our behalf.

Then all the glee I see on this thread is a bit misplaced.

While I wholeheartedly agree with AZ’s stance on this, if the entire west coast goes down, FR goes down with it.

FReepers on the west coast would be affected as well.

I’ll be filling my gas cans tonight.

Thanks for the info.

The voice of reason. The power companies need to sell, but Arizona should fix a boycott premium to la. In other words, we will offset any economic damage that you create, but will not deny you electricity. If, however, you elect not to buy our power, then so be it, that is your choice. Arizona should allow la to make the same idiotic, suicidal choices that they have made for the last 50 years.

“I also think that a lot of LA’s water runs through AZ!”

One of their sources, the Colorado River, runs along their shared border. Try damming half a river.

That said, I STRONGLY approve of shutting off their lights!

I don't see Arizona flipping that big switch and the CA lights go off. Never going to happen, Cutting back on how much they transmit will have the desired effect. .

Remember 1993 Soylent Green where Edward G Robinson (his last movie) had to pedal a generator bicycle to keep the one light on? Couldnt California do something like that? It's green. Also it could be part of a Obamacare type health program.
