Specter warns of tea party 'take over' By: Andy Barr May 18, 2010 03:10 PM EDT
As voters considered his fate throughout Pennsylvania, Sen. Arlen Specter warned on Tuesday that without him Democrats may not be able to fend off a tea party takeover.
What you see happening across the country is that the tea party organization has taken over, Specter said in an interview with MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell.
We know what happened to [Sen. Bob] Bennett [R-Utah], what happened to [Florida GOP Gov. Charlie] Crist, Specter said.
They drove him out of the Republican Party, Specter said of Crist, now running for the Senate as an independent in Florida.
Specter fled the Republican Party after polls showed the conservative grassroots support behind former Rep. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) would likely be enough to propel him to a primary win over the longtime senator.
Specter has acknowledged he switched to the Democratic Party, at least in part, to stand a better chance of preserving his seat. But on Tuesday he suggested that he had changed to remain one of the only men standing in front of a tea party revolution.

afraid of the American people venting their outrage at politicians that don’t listen.shocking.
Yep.
They first ignored us, then ridiculed us, now they fear us.
If the bill had gone through the normal process of reconciliation, it wouldn't have.
Actually I find Specter revolting.
“OMG! It is so un American for Americans to elect their own representatives...we must stop this madness!!!”
LOL! Did you hear Juan Williams right after Bennett got dumped in Utah? He was so angry because Bennet “has connections” and had “had that office for so many years”. (As if Juan gives a rip about any GOP candidate.) Bill Kristol said something like, “Exactly. Those are the reasons he was voted out.” People just don’t get it.
He says that like it's a bad thing. Yeah, guys like you are done, Arlen.
Specter, the only governing thing the “tea parties” have are louses like you to serve as that focus. You are responsible for the “tea parties” and in being the one who is focused on. Otherwise, these “tea partiers” across the country have no leader.
FYI, if you retired or decided to shuffle off this mortal coil, you wouldn't need to worry about them anymore.
...tea party takeover.
I wonder if it violates “Scottish Law”?
Hopefully he can join McCain in the retirement home.
“without him, the Democrats will not be able to fend off a tea party “takeover”.

I hope he is right.
I'm not sure what their word is, but I know how they say it ;-)
How I wish he were right.
I would suggest future shock. He simply can’t believe much lest understand the change.
he is simply a man of the 70’s and it is no longer the 70’s
I hope Arlen likes the taste of tea. He’s going to have to drink a lot of it at the primaies and in the general election, if PA is unfortunate enough to have him win today.
Typical communist lib mindset. Everyone will be helpless "without him."
Arlen, about that "tea party organization has taken over" thing, it is called v-o-t-i-n-g.
You know, like the "I won" thing from Fearless Reader.
The trash heap of history Mr. Sphincter ... that's where you're headed.
How could they? They are just a small group of racists. If they had any real numbers the press would be all over the story.
Specter continues his “death rattle”.
He will not be missed and history will show him as a nasty two-faced failure.
He should be going to the early bird specials in Broward County. Get out, Arlen...
