Specter warns of tea party 'take over' By: Andy Barr May 18, 2010 03:10 PM EDT

As voters considered his fate throughout Pennsylvania, Sen. Arlen Specter warned on Tuesday that without him Democrats may not be able to fend off a tea party “takeover.”

“What you see happening across the country is that the tea party organization has taken over,” Specter said in an interview with MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell.

“We know what happened to [Sen. Bob] Bennett [R-Utah], what happened to [Florida GOP Gov. Charlie] Crist,” Specter said.

“They drove him out of the Republican Party,” Specter said of Crist, now running for the Senate as an independent in Florida.

Specter fled the Republican Party after polls showed the conservative grassroots support behind former Rep. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) would likely be enough to propel him to a primary win over the longtime senator.

Specter has acknowledged he switched to the Democratic Party, at least in part, to stand a better chance of preserving his seat. But on Tuesday he suggested that he had changed to remain one of the only men standing in front of a tea party revolution.

Specter sending out a warning to the good ole boys in D.C.

Yes, we sure hope that the tea party movement takes Washington D.C. by storm. However, it is not an organization by any stretch of the imagination.

This is like Scott Brown’s opponent saying that if voters elected Brown Healthcare wouldn’t pass. Sadly, she was wrong, but it gave Brown that little extra oomph he needed.

This whore will say anything to stay in the Senate club. He thinks people will believe he switched parties because of a movement that hadn't even been founded at the time???

Maybe they will. They are Dims, after all.

It’s like some kinda dam democracy!

Exactly my first thought. Ol' Arlen is trying to scare people that Democracy is going to get them, and that they ought to stick with the ruling elite class for their own protection.

Hey Arlen, act like a lady!

Shouldn't you be calling it a "bloodless coup" like Barry does, Arnold?

After all, the peasants have no right to dethrone you.

The guy openly cares more about his position at the public trough than the country. Throw him out with the rest of the garbage

They need to understand,

this is indeed an ANTI-ELITIST movement.

If you think you “know better”, you’re a target.

"...Tuesday that without him Democrats may not be able to fend off a tea party “takeover.”..."

Without him ?. Sheeesh, this guy is dilusional. Who does he think he is? Is he the end all, be all of the dimoCRACKtic party? Do they have to run everything through him? Or is this just a last ditch effort to save his unholy, unsanctified hide (job)?

Actually I’m glad he said it. This MSM is force feeding us the talking point that whats going on is simply an “anti-incumbent” movement. BS. Whats going on is anti-dem and anti-rino. If its really just “anti-incumbent”, could someone show me the conservative incumbent that is in trouble?

The reason Specter is having trouble is because he was a rino that was chased from the GOP just like Crist, Scuzzyfava, and Gilcrest. He reached out to the libs for a lifeline but was denied.

Translation: Specter is complaining that Incumbancy Protection has failed.
