9 indicted on charges of accessing Obama records

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Nine people have been indicted in federal court on charges they accessed President Barack Obama's student loan records while employed for a Department of Education contractor in Iowa.

The U.S. attorney's office says a grand jury returned the indictments Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Davenport.

A simple search on the name of the organization would have revealed that it was fake. Next time, perhaps some quick fact-checking?

I went to a University for a while to work at a part time job. I wonder if Obama did the same and just got someone to print him a diploma.

Therefore this seems to have been the result of some kind of simple mass audit of records of who accessed Obama’s records and when it occured and now the identified offenders who had now business reason have been indicted.

I'm surprised the company had the network resources to maintain an audit for that long. It'll slow your network enough to be noticeable to end users. We've done them, but only when there was suspicion warranting it, and stopped the audit as soon as justified.

Is accessing records alone, a crime if one works for a company with that information available?

I don't know if it's a crime, but it's an immediate-termination offense where I work.
