Scent of fear in the air for Republicans
Las Vegas Sun ^ | May 12th | Jon Ralston

Posted on 05/12/2010 4:27:09 AM PDT by Halfmanhalfamazing

“There’s something happenin’ here, what it is ain’t exactly clear …”

— Stephen Stills, 1967

You see Utah’s Bob Bennett, who had a few moments of apostasy in the congregation’s eyes and dared to bow at the altar of bipartisanship, and he is brutally excommunicated.

You see Arizona’s John McCain, who couldn’t please the faithful as a presidential nominee and now is campaigning as a Joe Arpaio disciple, and he may be the next to be expelled from the Church of the Conservatives.

And, closer to home, you see Sue Lowden and Brian Sandoval, who are desperately trying to preach the right gospel and make the parishioners sing along, and yet they are getting crushed in straw poll after straw poll.

For what it’s worth, the moderate-cleansing in the Republican Party in these days of tea and poses could pay off in the short run for the candidates who can deliver the best conservative sermons and fool some of the small electoral universe on June 8. But four weeks before voters who don’t cast ballots early go to the polls, you can almost smell it in the air in the U.S. Senate and gubernatorial primaries — the scent of uncertainty, even of fear.

I hope this keeps growing.

For years the base has been complaining...but the elites knew best. Now along comes this uprising and the scumbags that should hve been thrown out years ago are waking up. We need to keep up the pressure and cut no slack!

The RINOS are right in line with the Democrats feeding at the trough.

Ralton and his newspaper are left of center. Their only use is to let you know what the left is thinking or hoping.

Down with Democrats masquerading as Republicans.
Down with the 55% CU voting records.

Getting Dem’s elected because the front running “R” isn’t conservative enough, is suicide!

Agreed and well stated. We have defended the indefensible because of the R’s next to their name. Because of that failure to purge our own bad eggs we took two terrible beatings. The McCain’s. the Graham’s and their lot must go.

What a cluck! You miss the point that the entire country is fed up with the socialist direction we been pushed in for the last 50 years. We are seeing the disintegration of our nation and you're concerned about people actually fighting back!

Another point you miss is that, regardless of this article, Republicans are not the only ones having their feet held to the fire. Democrats will probably lose around 50 seats in the House. Voters will be moving incumbents out, but rest assured that more Dems will be going than Republicans because of the mood of those voters who are demanding fiscal discipline.

Like those voters who are fed up with weak sisters, I would like to vote you off the island.

Get lost.

I agree with you when it comes down to the lesser of two evils. Like we did in ‘08 with Obama and McCain. I didn't like or believe McCain but not voting for him gave us Obama.

However, the primaries are oh so very important to make sure we choose a candidate who is a true Conservative.

I was pretty frustrated with some people on this board who sat on their arses instead of voting for McCain. Now we are all paying for it. I owe them a big sloppy “Thank You”.

That is why Clinton was allowed to get away with his shit. The Republicans, for the most part, were as corrupt as he was.

A third party candidate will be our demise.

Nobody on this thread is talking about third party candidates but you. Our goal is to win primaries with conservative candidates and kick the RINOs out! Were you content with John McCain as our party's nominee in 2008? Do you enjoy seeing him poke his finger in the eyes of conservatives and side with the Rats time after time in the Senate? Do you think 3 term 'moderate' incumbents should be given a life time tenure just because they have an R after their name?

Now is the time to build a conservative army to win at the polls in November. Quit wringing your hands and get to work!

Hold on there, Skippy.

Did you vote for a Presidential candidate in ‘08?

“I think it is safe to say stupid Perot voters ushered in what we are experiencing now”

I held my nose and voted for Mclame in ‘08 and won’t vote for a third party unless it’s a choice between Hitler and Stalin. Might stay home then. So, whatever happened to Perot? Been quiet lately. Wonder how many billions he was paid and by whom to run for president. That worked out nicely. I think the sheeple are getting too smart for that ruse. The Republic party had better wise up if they want to avoid becoming extinct.

re: losing a primary

Was there even a primary. I though his fate was sealed by the Party, not the voters. Regardless of how he was launched from the deck of our Party ship it's fine by me. You have to be a conservative all the time, not just when it helps get you elected or re-elected. My guess is the Party is finding it damned hard to raise funds and the reason given by most for not contributing this time is their unhappiness with the Party's unwillingness to help rid itself of RINO’s, especially entrenched RINO’s. They're the worst.

If we can manage to pull off the feat we're hoping for in November it will send a very valuable lesson politicians everywhere, you work for us. Or as Mom used to say, “I brought you into this world and I can take you out!”

As an added bonus it will feel SO GOOD to have stood up to this pack of animals that have ruled for years and years with nothing more than a condescending nod of the head to the average voter while raking in tons of funds from the big contributor.

Seems like we say this every election, but this IS the BIG ONE! If we ever stand a chance of getting our country back to its founding principles, this has to be it.

I would like to see a nationwide campaign of some sort to demonstrate to the voting population just how serious, determined we are to end the madness that has become our federal government. Like maybe have those of us who intend to use our vote to end the insanity vote early, either in person as we can here in Florida, or by absentee ballot. Just imagine the effect it could have on election day if the news is full of reports from all over that more votes were cast in advance than ever before. Early voting was big here in Florida this last election, but we need to make it even bigger. One nice thing about voting early for a cause is you will see so many others at the poll who share your determination to start America's U-turn.

Hey GOP! Ya gotta learn -- RINOs are bad for your health. If you see one -- don't touch -- run away -- tell an adult.

The Las Vegas Sun (which I have watched fade away--thankfully!--until it is nothing more than an insert in the larger, more moderate conservative/libertarian-ish Review Journal--they're published together now) should ask itself what the Democrat party and fellow-traveller ilk did to JOE LIEBERMAN.

Didn’t Jefferson say the system is working when the government fears the people, rather than the other way around?

(I didn’t trad the whole thread, but I’m sure I’m not the first to mention this.)
