More than 22,620 Texas secondary students who stopped showing up for class in 2008 were excluded from the state's dropout statistics because administrators said they were being home-schooled, according to Texas Education Agency figures.
But that's where the scrutiny of this growing population seems to end, leaving some experts convinced that schools are disguising thousands of middle and high school dropouts in this hands-off category.
While home-schooling's popularity has increased, the rate of growth concentrated in Texas' high school population is off the chart: It's nearly tripled in the last decade, including a 24 percent jump in a single year.

Homeschoolers, keep this in mind, and look to Germany for a view of our future.

In Germany, a judge ruled against the right to homeschool with the reasoning that “homeschooling creates a parallel society” that doesn’t fit with the mold they are creating through the government schooling system.
“You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.”
Germany creeps me out. They are a bunch of humorless engineers with no moral compass at all.
Make the parents produce their diplomas or GED’s first. No high school graduate at home to teach the student; no home schooling.
Perhaps its that whole death camp thing as well.

I understand that this is a well intentioned position but I disagree because that is an infringement on parental rights.
It would be better to withdraw the public safety nets, to ensure quality than to impose more governmental interference.

Considering most educators in this country are only required to have an Associate’s degree or equivalent credit hours makes me suspicious of the public school systems! It’s the parent’s prerogative how to raise their children, NOT the State’s!
Education is not enumerated in the Constitution, and most States would have no problem allowing homeschooling. I plan to homeschool my unborn children, and I’ll have no problem continuing to pay my school taxes, even if my kids aren’t part of that group!

Yes, VERY true. Fortunately, the hslda.org has been fighting off this encroachment for years.
Sadly, I am convinced many of my fellow homeschoolers will not start getting involved politically until the ability to educate our children is taken away.
The time to act is NOW. There are some 2-3 million homeschoolers and I believe everyone of us should be involved in movements against socialism, like tea parties.
4% of families homeschool in my county. If homeschooling were outlawed, not only would the homeschoolers suffer but the local schools, which are already crowded would absolutely buckle.
Why do you think children should be exposed in public schools to pedophiles and Communists?
Historically, in some large school districts, Hispanics are known to show up just enough for the school to receive state aid or not be truant. However, many have full-time jobs.

The left did screw up when they didn’t foresee these grains of sand sifting through their tightening fist earlier.
The HSLDA got up and running just in time to head them off from their usual judicial end-around. They’ll have to go legislative or executive (police power force),
and those are more easily recognized and countered.
I don’t know where you found your information, but only teacher’s aides need an associates degree. All certified staff must have a bachelor’s degree in the area that they teach. Most states, including the state in which I teach, requires a master’s degree at some point. For example, I will not be granted a certificate renewal in 2016 if I don’t have a master’s degree.
My grandfather's father died when he was 14. He and his brother went to work supporting their sister and mother. By 30, he had 6 kids, a large house and a painting crew. They painted, he did the gold leaf of church spires. Became a postmaster when the Great Depression hit. Avid reader. He had an 8th grade education.
LOL - yes the HSLDA is the “NRA” of homeschoolers ;-)
