The Somali pirates who were captured in an assault operation after hijacking a Russian tanker near the Gulf of Aden and then released by Russian military officials have not reached the coast and have apparently perished, a top-ranking source in Russia's Defense Ministry told journalists on Tuesday.
Russia's Moscow University tanker was hijacked last week near the Gulf of Aden. Ten pirates were captured and one was killed in the assault operation.
The captured pirates were initially to be sent to Moscow for prosecution, but Russian military officials then made the decision to release them, citing the absence of a legal base to carry out prosecution procedures against pirates.
The pirate's boat reportedly disappeared from radars an hour after they had been released by the Russian military.
ROFL! I have no doubt the pirate ship disappeared from radar. Probably with the help of a cruise missile. No muss, no fuss, no trial. Just barbecued shark bait.
I’m predicting that Russian flagged ships will be left alone now. Maybe another such incident if the pirates are slow learners.
Russia is demonstrating an understanding of how these things work that our leadership seems to lack.
It wasn’t always that way.
I suspect bullet to the head then put the boat adrift
I guess a few ACLU lawyers will have to cancel their travel plans.
Disappeared from Radar????? I guess that could happen when you have weights tied to your feet. They might try using their Sonar equipment.
The other sad part of the story is that the pirates won’t be getting their 72 dancing virgins. Amen.
“Must have been a slow leak, hahaha.”
A slow leak caused by some centex stuck to the bottom of their boat... those crazy ruskies sure are messy, allowing stray centex to get acidentially stuck to their boat...
Treading water for an hour with those weights is impressive.
AWw! now aint dat jess too bad;-)
We need to practice this kind of justice.
LLS
Let’s see how many more boats flying Russian flags get hijacked. LOL.
Finally, some one gets it! Too bad it had to be the Russians and not the US.
Picture from another thread showing the 11 pirates, with one appearing to be dead. This was taken before they were released.
Stupid somali pirates, stealing more anchor chain than they could swim with.
Can you imagine what the pirates were thinking as they sat in that rubber raft, with no motor and no food, 300 miles from land, watching that Russian ship disappear slowly from sight?
It gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling inside, I tell ya.
Must have been allah (piss be on him) will for his moon rock death cult followers to sink to the bottom of the ocean
Julius Caesar deal successfully with pirates in a similar, thou more dramatic, manner. He publicly crucified all of them. End of problem. I congratulate the Russians on saving their ship and crew while at the same time ridding the world of 11 pirates. Well done Russia.
No legal basis to prosecute pirates??? Is that a joke?
I have a slightly different take on this. Are the Somali pirates working for the Russians? Did the Somalis accidentally attack the wrong ship (a Russian ship)? Is that why they were released? "Disappeared from radars" only so that they could attack the proper ships (non-Russian), with the Russians' blessings.
