Maybe she can become a community organizer? I understand the job has LOTS of upward mobility :) :) :)
People don’t go into fields like Theology and Social Work to make a lot of money anyway.
Worst degree ever. Quite unpopular these days.
I didn’t see “writing for Truthout” listed. Oh wait, this for people with real degrees.
Journalism — right there with buggywhip studies.
Wow - a double whammy - most social workers are very liberal, and Columbia is as liberal as it gets.
I have a family member doing ok with it. She is in with a group of doctors and psychiatrists. Of course, as the article (a little snidely) points out, a lot of these majors you don’t go into because you want to be rich.
For instance, a reformed pastor does about eight years of school and prep to get a church. Many of them don’t earn much once they get one. They do it for their calling.
The whole educational system is screwed up, in my opinion. I wonder how we ever got to a place where people went into advanced education simply to get a job or play football.
Oh, I dunno. A guy in my old neighborhood used to make a boatload of money in horticulture, and he wasn't even a college graduates. Haven't seen him around much since the police cars showed up that one day. Don't know what was up with that...
Gov Christie thinks teacher is one of the highest paid and wants to limit their pay negotiations.
My Nephew is finishing up his Master’s degree in Philosophy. I think he’s gonna be flippin’ burgers!
I will never understand people that don’t check the salaries on degrees. I have a cousin that is currently taking on near six figures in student loan debt for a master’s degree in social work.
College is an investment. You have to run the numbers to make sure its going to pay off. Good grief.

Interesting that English isn’t up there. Having a BA in English and working on my MA, I’m making well over the high points of most of those jobs and will shoot for management when the market gets better. Of course, it helps having 15 years of enterprise-level IT experience...
11. Architecture
I’m thinking “Sports Broadcast Journalism”...
Although teaching isn’t a huge salary, the benefits and schedule are fantastic.
My ex is a social worker with a bachelor’s. After 20 years she was making what I as making as a junior engineer. (50K) She has friends with Master’s and they all make 6 figures. Your niece will probably do just fine.
She will get a job easy enough....probably pay 6 figures fairly fast.
The other went to a nice expensive school to be a "hair stylist" she will probably make more money than both my other kid and I both. Ha!!
The difference is she can make what she wants to make as a free lancer........
Crazy
I don’t see Women’s Studies at the bottom of that list and shouldn’t it be? Also, I get a kick out of the teachers who get doctorates in education so they can play principal and get called “Dr” for the world’s easiest PhD.
How about a PhD in Postmodern Transgender Perspectives?
